Some Recent BK Scales

BTW, I did add a copy of the original post with pics to the Handle Modification thread.
I think Bladite will eventually add that thread to the database if he hasn't already done it.

Nice!!! I like the use of only two screws on the scales, make them more attractive and pleased to the eyes. Very nice finished on the wood are they stabilized some how?

No, cocobolo rosewood doesnt need to be stabilized. They do have Tung Oil and Tom's 1/3 Military Gun Wax on them though. I use this technique in the rain, ice and snow and never had a problem.

those are amazing! any chance on posting a "how-to"? i keep telling myself i want to make some exotic scales for mine, but then I follow up with "ah, i'll just F it up" and decide not to.

It would take me a long time to write a how to but here's a coupe of photos of the process :

I just noticed that Oregon is doing a how to. His looks awesome so I'll not worry about posting. Here is one final picture though since I had it.

Yeah, i read that one - it's a total cliffhanger!

If you're trying to preserve the black coating on the blade, how do you sand the scales flush with the tang without taking off the finish? Is there some special trick to it?

It's really tough, I use that green tape as a depth indicator. When the green tape starts disappearing I know I'm close.
Truth be told, I have a sacrificial Blade, my BK 2. It's all beat to piss from making these things.

Wow. That wood looks absolutely beautiful. Really stunning. Thank you for the wonderful pictures.

take care

Thanks! I have two new pairs in mind beyond Cocobolo Rosewood. One in desert ironwood burl and the other in koa.

BKT knives rock!
