Here are some recent flea-market acquisitions. There’s nothing very exciting there, so I’ve not mentioned or photographed them previously, but thought y’all might like a look.

First, 3 Richards knives. I come across far more of these knives than any other, and don’t often buy them. The spear-point is by far the most common pattern, but this one is in good condition and appears to have been carried very little if at all. I bought the sheepsfoot a couple of months ago, mainly because I’ve never seen another Richards knife quite like it. It’s also in very good nick. The wee bottle knife looks like it could have come out of a Christmas cracker!

An even more motley collection! The hawkbill with the broken tip I only picked up a few hours ago. It’s made by George Wostenholm. It’s clearly seen a lot of use and abuse, and as well as the broken tip, it has considerable side to side blade play, and gaps all over the place. The pen above it is an Abram Brooksbank, in stainless. On the pile side, the end of one of the covers has broken, and the blade has play. The other pen is by H Fisher of Sheffield and is also marked ‘Ferrodor’, it has wrap-around steel covers with an internal spring. I’d taken the last knife to be one of the cheap novelty knives which some Sheffield firms turned out in the years of their decline, but in fact it is marked ‘foreign’.

I’ll keep looking! :)

 I need to find the local places where I might find a cool knife.

Old hardware stores that have an old knife display... never be bashful to ask to look in the storage area of an old knife case, even if the display area shows only new. I've found stock rotation procedures were not always followed and found a few dandy knives with old price stickers. I have never had a single employee deny a peek. You can find old boxes and sheaths too.

Nice finds, Jack! I know that fleamarkets can be tricky with buying old used knives ... sometimes you have luck and find a lot of pieces so you have to decide and sometimes you are searching for hours and find plain nothing.

Thanks for sharing your finds, my friend!

Thanks Andi, times have been a bit lean lately, but with the (hopefully) warmer weather, the markets will get bigger, so there'll be more chance of finding something. Fingers crossed! :)

The way things are here, it's nice just to see a few knives on open sale :)

Not particularly. I'd like to find a nice sized equal end cattle knife in bone. Not sure I'd find one around here. I'm watching a couple of auctions though. ;)

Good luck my friend. I'll keep an eye peeled over here, for what it's worth :)

Nice finds Jack! The wife and I love to browse through the junk bins of a somewhat local flea market looking for
"treasure"...oftentimes we just see things that we say, " remember these?". Sometimes, rarely, we will find a nice old pocketknife. The hunt is half the fun:thumbup:

Absolutely Duane, I end up buying all sorts of other curios and oddments - I bought a pair of vintage dental pliars the other week! :D

Great finds- I think that Brooksbank is particularly handsome.
I bought a 10-inch Bowie in London in the latter 70's, and its only mark was "foreign". But I think eventually someone told me I'd misread "forged". I can't remember who was right. I left it with someone there, so I can't check.

Thanks, I don't come across too many Brooksbank knives, in fact this is my only other

I think I recall you mentioning the Bowie before, they could be had for a reasonable price then. Even today, a lot of knives are still produced in Sheffield which carry no maker's mark.

A lion door knocker I scored for half price around 3quid at the Dorset steam fair-massive flea market plus traction engines.
At a glance it is from India. I put it down low on the door so the kids can use the knocker.
cheers

Hardly worth a thread to themselves, so I thought I’d post these pics here of some simple slipjoints that I picked up the other day as part of a job lot with my Rodgers Clasp Knife (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1090344-A-Joseph-Rodgers-WW1-Clasp-Knife). I took the last knife for another Richards, which it obviously isn’t. The tang stamp looks familiar, I might even have another somewhere, but who knows, only a very basic knife anyway.
