some recent new arrivals

The Egyptian Pharoahs had lapis cutlery 5,000 years ago.
I saw a lapis lazuli adorned fixed blade knife a few years ago in person. It was stunning. There is no other blue like that blue.
110 Dave has a beautiful lapis folder. Lucky.
It has been a dream of mine for years. I thought that lapis was only mined in Afghanistan so kinda hard to get a bargain on some right now. I figured that I was the only one who liked blue rock handled knives.
Thank you kindly for the photos.
there are 5 of them, this one is the only drop point
and two are 112's
yes i like the blue stone quite well my self !
here is the rest of the story on these one off customs..
.this started with discusson with Ohen Cepel
while he was stationed over there in the bad lands and he said of
trying to get a sonevener for the time there and said of the blue Lapis stone
hummmm…
i called Dave Yellowhorse and asked if he would do some knives
for some GI's that were over seas and he said yes.
Ohen was thrilled and went to a bizarre in Afghanistan and
had the raw Lapis cut to size by a rock cutter.
I sent the stone to Dave … well when he started work
Dave had a smal bit of learning curve to know how to work the Lapis
He found he needed to buy some new equipment
Then worked some more then had to get other supply's
in order to finish the stone..
During this time bucksway and i asked if no one was speaking for two sets
could we have them for a knife for us as we both are retired navy {so still GI's}
O.C. said that was ok with him as one did drop out..
Well the knives arrived yesterday and
I don’t know what the bill will be yet as it was not in the box!!!!

Here is a pic of some lapis that I've had for decades. Bot it in the annual rockhound gathering in Quartzite. I asked around for the lapis guy and was given directions. I found his tent and asked about the blue rock. He gestured to a wooden box under a table. It was full of large pieces. I wanted something the size of my fist but settled for something the size of my thumb, and more affordable. This piece has iron pyrite (fool's gold) and quartz running thru it. The blue color is dark like India Ink. Kinda hard to capture the true color but hopefully you get the idea.

110,

If I had a tomato eating dog I would try to get on Letterman. Thank you for all you do, your sense of humor and for your profound generousity.

Yes. It has been many years since I visited the annual, around the first of the year, mineral swap. I had never seen anything like this assortment of people and minerals from all over the world in one place. We were in Indio so we went over the Tahachapi Pass to Quartzite (at that time it was just a crossroads in the middle of the desert, a gas station and a McDonalds). Folks covered the desert in campers, motor homes or visited for the day from surrounding towns and cities. I've always wanted to return. Whatever rock you seek you will find here in quantity. Ever handled copalite?

I had some Josephinite with me to have examined by the meteorite guy to see if it was indeed a meteorite. The conclusion was that the Josephinite was simply naturally occurring nickel from the Josephine River where I had been mining gold.

oregon no I dont think that I have handled copalite. Been through Quartzite a few times on my way to Cal.. Stopped a few times, but it was the wrong time of the year. Will have to make plans to go there for the mineral swap. It is now a big hang out for the snow birds, during the winter. HL

Awesome new additions to the 110 collection. I wish you would get a new camera to better show off those gold etch blades of yours. However, that mite get a few of the newbies interested in our beloved gold rush bucks. Can you get a better photo of the Duck blade?

I failed to spell the word I wanted properly. It should have been Coprolite: Petrified dung. Some is quite beautiful when cut and polished. And what a conversation piece. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coprolite
