Hi all! I wanted to share some recent work and also give a big thanks to all of those who have been so helpful. Ive been able to learn so much, and still have lots to learn, but really appreciate having a community of knowledgeable people who are willing to help! Here are a few knives ive been working on lately, leatherwork is still something im trying to get good at. All of these knives are out of 1084 or 1095 with handle materials ranging from stabilized maple, figured walnut, and hawaiian mango (also most of them have a black g10 liner). One of these knives you will see with a matching slate turkey call… really neat story behind that. I am an avid competitive shooter and I was going to make a knife to donate as a raffle prize at one of our big shoots this year. Then I had the idea to call my friend, a custom game call maker, and asked him if he would be willing to make a call to match my knife so we could donate the package. After lots of planning and coordinating, here is our first collaborative project!
Any comments and constructive criticism welcome!

You mentioned getting better at your leather work. I think your craftsmanship would look better if you used a better grade of leather. I am guessing the leather you use is the cheapest grade, (cow belly). Your basket weave stamping would be a lot sharper if you started with a better grade of leather. Double shoulders are nice to work with.

Thanks, they are 8 oz Oak grade double shoulders. I think my main thing with the stamping not being as sharp is that I don't have a piece of marble to stamp on. I'm using a piece of hardwood, so it's not comming out as deep. I was going to go to a local kitchen design place and see if I can get a scrap piece of marble.

Your grinds are going almost all the way up now which is great. Your hand rubbed finish is looking really well. Leather work is tough for me so I'll say they look good and way better than mine! Overall they look great. You are continuing to get better and that's what it's about! The slate call is awesome and I'll be using mine, and hopefully my knife, next weekend!

I see you've been working hard to address the issues with your earlier work. You're doing a great job and your knives are much improved. Leather has it's own set of challenges. You'll figure that out soon enough.

Thank you very much! I know, I can't wait for turkey season to start!!! It's my favorite season, good luck!

Thank you very much. You have been very helpful with pointing out things to approve and I really appreciate your help!

Good work Nic. Your grinds look crisp now!

You and I talked about the pins before, so I think you know how to fix those. The carbon fiber pins look good though (although I am biased towards them).

Keep it up.

Thanks Shane, I really appreciate it! I really like the CF pins too.
