Here are some of the pieces I've recently finished. I picked up a bar of the sumagashi steel with the white core and made a small knife with it. I really liked how it turned out.
Let me know what you guys think?
Thanks

that's a good start, I can see you used stock removal and ground the bar without any forging,
How did you HT and have you tested the edge?

I'll be up in Lompoc tmrw to play some golf at La Purisima :-)

Thanks. I followed your ht recipe including the clay applied to the whole blade. It works very well and the cutting ability of this little guy is really good. The next one I will do I will have to forge out because it is a little on the thick side.
La Purisima is a nice spot, I am about twenty minutes from there, hope you have a good time.
Thanks for the feedback

forging will give you nice form in the lines of the steel marbling,
rather than the straight lines you have now.

you can also beat on it with a hammer cold like this -

Looks good, I think the bigest thing that catches my eye is the grind height from edge to the top of the grind is not the same as it fallows the edge. This distance gets shorter as it goes around the tip. I see this more and more on knives lately and don't know what causes it. My first thought was using a jig and not having control of the grind as you sweep around the belly. I'm not saying it's wrong how you did it. It is just a visual eye sore for me. On another topic I am wondering if these kind of posts are OK in the build/question section of the forum. I though "look at my knife" posts went in the gallery. Just wondering?
