cool pics... i see chalk marks on some of the rocks, those stinking climbers....:o i was wondering if anyone climbs there...

That knife was made by GL Drew on a sketch I sent him. 3/16ths" 1095, 4" blade. Super stout and feels great in hand. He does great work and has extremely reasonable prices.

I couldn't tell if was chalk marks or from natural sediment. From the looks of all the holes, this area had to have been under water eons ago. There is a very large cave in the area that is harder to get to that has lots of petroglyphs. This area had a large Chumash indian population. Very cool to see first hand.

Very cool area. I am always amazed at the forces involved to create such structures. The mountain near where I do alot of my camping is like a giant wave made of granite. The top of the wave looks like it crested sending giant boulders and slabs downslope, some as large as houses. Its a good thing this area deosn't get earthquakes anymore. Mac

Definitely! I love seeing everybodies pics from their favorite spots. And you will like the knife man. Cuts and prys apart wood like crazy

The rock formations around here still amaze me even though I have hiked around here for years. I always seem to find something new, and just thinking about how it was all formed is mind boggling.

Mmmm I just see a bunch of great hand holds, foot holds, smears and such... I just feel like going climbing today! :D :D
I am afraid that sandstone would be way to soft though.

BTW, great pictures man!

There is an area a few miles from this spot that has some great climbing. The Sherriff and Fire Dept SAR teams train there all the time. I'm okay at rappelling, but I dunno about that climbing UP stuff!

That looks like a really nice area. I love interesting rock formations and caves. I'm with you on the rappelling but no climbing for this old man. LOL

I also started rappelling (somehow I thought you guys refered to it as abseiling... don't ask me why..) and then started climbing. I have rappelled down briges, climbing walls, buildings, trees, and even ran down a dam wall UNISOLD style (put on the harness backwards and be carefull not to take your fee off the wall, otherwise you will end up hanging head down... better on not-so-vertical walls). We enjoyed fast rappells with eight figure descenders and single ropes a lot... and luckily we didn't have any problems.

Time went by and the more I learnt about climbing... the more i realised how lucky we where. There is a lot of accidents every year while rappelling... mostly because people make dumb mistakes such as not using an extra safety system like a Petlz Shunt below the descender or even a prusik knot... You know what I mean. That way you can take your hands off the rope and you won't go any further. Think twice what could happen if you get knocked out by a rockfall while you are rappelling without that extra safety devices...
