parents have asked me what i want for christmas, and ive really been enjoying carrying slip joints lately, along with my kershaw skyline. i have a new case peanut, an old case 2 bladed hunter, and an old ulster boy scout knife, thats all. so i have been thinking about some different ones.

case large toothpick
case sod buster
vic farmer with alox scales

any other suggestions? nothing over 60$, i dont want to bankrupt em, but i would like some new classic folders. thanks for any suggestions:D

Have you tried one of their stockmen yet? I'd go for one of the yellow-handled ones with CV blades.

Those Case Copperlocks look pretty nice. I think they come in CV with the chestnut handle. I'm not positive though.

Small Texas Jack or Medium Stockmen or Sodbuster Jr in CV. These are the staple of the slipjoint world.

I love me small texas jack. It's the perfect EDC pattern.

God Bless

I recommend the handy little Tony Bose designed Case swayback jack in their excellent CV steel (shown on the right). It's my favorite, and most often carried, regular production Case knife. Should just fit into your price range.

its all about options and it's hard to beat three blades in a nice sized frame:thumbup: Stockman
either a medium CV stockman in yeller or a Jumbo CV in amberbone, actually any of the yeller handled case are an excellent buy...
good luck

All nice suggestions, and I would suggest something more "cult": if you shop around you can find a Great Eastern Cutlery in carbon steel (Tidioute brand) within your budget: old-style manufacturing quality and great soul.
For example at JRE (no relation, used as an example) they have this "river valley green" scout trapper for $59.95:

or this bigger, stout single blade Pioneer also with carbon steel blade and reptile bone handle:

Another interesting, soulful brand is Carl Schlieper - handmade but perhaps difficult to find within your budget.

A "classic" folder IMO means a classic pattern in a time honored steel.

I'd look at a Case knife with CV steel or a GEC Tidoute or Northfield knife with 1095 steel (as mentioned above).

Some of the classic patterns are the stockman, 2 blade trapper, and muskrat.

One thing - you mentioned that you're thinking of a Case large toothpick - that knife is 5-1/2" closed.
Case also makes medium (4-1/4" closed) and tiny (3" closed) toothpicks which are more pocket-friendly.

If you're looking at the toothpick pattern, I also recommend that you check out the toothpicks from Northfield and Tidioute.

You have to have at least one Case in yella handles and CV blades. Once the blades get a good patina, it contrasts nice with the yella handles.

Get a yella Soddie.....you'll be very pleased with it!

I'll toss in another vote for a Case Trapper. That one's a real classic.

Also, any Barlow you choose is also a classic; I recommend one from S&M.

+1 for the case stockman. I got one with g10 scales and stainless blades and it is the best and most useful knife I have ever owned.

You're asking for a knife?

I'm guessing they told you that you can't have a pony :p :D lol

I'd probally get either the med or large Case stockman with cv steel and chestnut handle.

since when does 'tactiCOOL troll the classic folder forums?:D:D:D yeah, no go on pony, so some new knives are the next best thing:rolleyes:

thanks for all the suggestions, now ive plenty of looking to do:cool:

Rick, post #6, middle knife, "Menefee Made" ?? v. nice.

Of course it would probably bust the $60 budget by a few bucks. Then again if you know someone selling Menefee slipjoints for $60 put me down for a few. :D
