So I had a pretty good day today....smoked a pork shoulder for 11 hours and had some fantastic pulled pork sandwiches with friends and family. Good food and good times for all!! I was little torn whether to put this in the Swamp Rat forum or Busse forum since I don't own any Busses yet, just a bunch of Rats. Used my Ratmandu to split up some hickory chunks. I do have a MUK on order though and since this is a big hunk of pig I figured I'd put it over here. Enjoy the pics.

Brilliant idea with the flower pots. I'll definitely give it a try. Off to the garden center...

Good god that looks good! Looks like my eastern Carolina style. But you are definitely going to have to elaborate on the how-to on that flower pot smoker. Sweet RMD also.

Poor man's Green Egg? Nice set up. You should do a "How To" thread on that ceramic smoker.

I think we all agree. Details!

Okay....here are some more details. Just so we are clear, I'm not smart enough to come up with this idea myself.;) I saw Alton Brown do it on one of his shows and here is a link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ka2kpzTAL8

The pots I used are 16.5" diameter at the top. Picked up the electric burner at Walgreens. The grate and thermometer came from Home Depot. Heavy duty pie pan from Walmart or Target. Make sure it is the heavy duty (thick) version or it won't last long on the burner. I rigged up a chain with some nuts/bolts to use as a handle of sorts to lift off the lid. He doesn't mention it in the video, but the pots do get hot!

You'll need to take apart the burner from it's metal housing in order to just get the burner to fit in the bottom of the pot. Then the thermostat and wiring can be placed under the pot with the wires running to the burner through the hole in the bottom of the pot. Good luck if you decide to make your own and if you have any questions let me know. Your google fu will come in handy as well; there are quite a few places to find info.
