The more I handle the Steel Heart Ergo, the more I like it. It's just a great all-around size for general duty. Will work as a chopper, yet it can still clean game and attend to camp chores with ease. Feels good in the hand, and when you choke up on the handle and use the choil, it takes on the personality of a much smaller knife.

Here are a few pics I took this week...

It's indeed a sweet knife. Beautiful pics, thnx for sharing!

Nice pics!

I've been thinking about trading down from a BM-e to a SH-e for the "go-to" user. But everytime I think about a 7" blade (still a big knife), I think - might as well go 9"... Seem to always have my Leaner on me anyway for the light / small stuff.

But I still may do it, the SH does seem to be the closest to a "one knife does everything" blade.

My thoughts exactly. TonyG and I have had this conversation, and he's of the same mind as you--might as well go with the BM.

In my daypack rides a smaller fixed blade and a chopper. However, there are a few occasions where I might pack only one knife. That's where the one-sized-fits-all mentality kicks in. It has been the SJTAC LE for me, but I sure like this SH-E as well.

One of these days, I'll find an SFNO, and maybe that'll settle it. :D

LOL...

I've often thought about what a 6" NO-E would be like -- as the "one knife" scenerio. I'm sure it's only appealing because it's not available to me!

The SH-1 will be close to the perfect one. I hope they offer it in 1/4" though, as well as the thinner version.

I've been going back and forth on this one, my "out and about" blades have been a SH SJ, a BM-E, and an EDC size on my belt, figure I'm covered for a knife, but it's also extra hardware.

I could just carry a SH-E, but it's a little large for small stuff, a little small for the large stuff. When I'm only bringing one (hardly ever) the SH-E wins.

Such a dilemma, I wish all life's issues were of this magnitude.

:D

oh, nice pics, that polished spine is awesome.

Gee, no one has ever thought that up before:rolleyes:

Seriously, I have never really understood why you would go with a knife near the size of an BM when the BM can do so much more. The only SH that I can see as a keeper is the FSH because it is much bigger than the typical SH. Otherwise, I go big 9-10 inch blade, and small, 3-4 inch blade (AD, MS, GW).

For some reason, on that last pic, it looks tiny in your mitts there...

That is why I go with the 10" BB Steel Heart (second one down), it has a better handle and the size of the SHBM!

you know, since Busse has never really made that model, he could conceivably come out with it now :D

Sounds good to me, I'd buy a couple made in INFI! All Jerry has to do is lengthen the SH1-A NC program and WHAMO!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for keeping us honest, Mr. Originality. :D

That's because I'm a giant of a man and bears tremble when I walk their woods. :p

Great idea. Send me one of those BBSHSH, and I can retire this SH-E before I even whack it.

For me, the slot it fills is when I want to go for a walk in the woods sans daypack. To me at least, the BMs are a little bit on the bulky side for hip carry. Not terribly so, but just big enough to annoy. Also, in some of the state parks around me, the BM also stands to scare the crap out of some of the tree huggers (and maybe even merit an encounter with a park ranger). If I'm taking a big chopper, it's usually in the pack, and the smaller fixed blade is on my hip. If I'm not taking a pack along though, I like the "Jack of All Trades" blade.

Skunk has mentioned that the SH-E is his choice for a rafting knife. I can see the logic there, if you don't want to take two or three blades. The SH-E is a good middle-of-the-road choice. I can see myself packing the SH-E for a kayaking trip where I'm looking to eliminate extra weight on the yak.

Still, I'm actually with you Cobalt. My normal carry is a smaller blade and a chopper. Right now, if you looked in my pack, you'd find a SR Battle Rat and a BATAC.

My usual walkabout combination is the Puzzle Variant ZTSH and Krein TGS:

Between the two, I have it covered. The thinner blade of the ZT blank makes it much handier and lighter on the hip. A full sized BM is too much for my tastes.

I find if you carry an AR-15 it tends to draw attention away from the BM.:D

that's because him beng drunk around water is likely to loose a blade and SH-E's are expendable.:D SHBM's are not:D

Guyon & Cobalt,

What I have said is that because I backpack and have to carry all my stuff in, that anything larger than a BA-III just isn't making the trip - period!!! Under no circumstances I can think of would I bring a larger knife.

The next thing I use knives for is to clear areas of the yard and chop a bit. Well to me that means BM. I just don't do stuff for which knives like a SH, NO, or HR would be best for.:o

Sound advice. Thank you.

Hmmm... I seem to recall a past post: :D

Man, I am glad I never told you guys about the SHBM that I lost in a river near DC (by near I mean within 100 miles and that is all you will ever know). You would all be out there dredging that river.

Rick, this is one sweet looking blade. I like that jigsaw puzzle pattern...
