Some things are not meant to happen ...

Thank you Keith, I will keep you kind offer in mind. But I am now decided to wait a couple more weeks and hope that the package will find its way. I was really looking forward to surprise my friend and I am more than positive that the contents of the package would do that. I am just concerned about the chocolate box. It is some best I have ever eaten (a small maker from north Germany, truly amazing taste and quality) and that should not be left standing for 2-3 month as it is best when it is fresh), but that one would be the easiest to replace :)

No problem man just passing along the good nature that porch has shown me. Also I hear ya on the chocolate love me some good chocolate ,hope all works out I'm sure it will

I hope it makes it to your friend eventually. It's very frustrating when the postal service looses a package.

One time the USPS weren't able to deliver a tracked package to me from a member here. It's not the end of the world, but it'll make the day worse.

Andi (Humppa) once sent ScruffUK a package containing various Germa sausages and other meat products, and the package was delayed. I was told it smelled rather 'ripe' when it finally arrived!

There's a lot of extra post in December, a lot more packages than normal, a lot of temporary staff, and of course the Christmas/New Year holidays. It's probably the worst time of year for items to be delayed, misdirected, etc. Most are eventually delivered though

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Matus. I do hope it arrives safely. I have had a couple packages go missing in the past. One was an OD Alox Cadet with Red shield that I had bought from an online sale that went missing many many months ago. Still hope it arrives as I have yet to find another listed. Another one of my purchases was an old carbide miners headlamp that I had bought from an online auction site that has never gotten here. That was about 4 years ago. There were a couple more over the many years I've been buying online from an Antique Dietz Lantern (I restore these for fun) to vintage fishing lures. Eh...the price we pay for hobbies and ordering online sometimes. If you can contact the postmaster you can probably come up with their record number for your package and they should be able to internally track it down even without a tracking number. I'm sure they've got some sort of receipt or parcel number or something. Good luck and I'm praying for a safe arrival.

Just a short update - the package did not show. But I was sending to my friend some other stuff (this time insured) - and the first delivery attempt failed and the tracking information says that the address was wrong. I have checked with my friend and the Address is 100% correct - so there must be some problem in DHL database or system or something. Strangely enough - this happens in the country (and city) where DHL has its headquarters. Oh welll.

I'm sorry to hear it still didn't arrive [emoji17] It seems to be quit hard to compose a valid database of addresses: One American webshop alway sends me a mail to double check my address because it turns out to be invalid (hard to comprehend since our house and address is 97 years old). After my confirmation they send the package to the 'invalid' address and it lucky always arrived.

I had a knife which came to me from the US via AUSTRALIA - despite being clearly addressed to me in the UK - It not only went to Australia, but it was opened by Customs there, and delayed for several weeks. Once again, I really hope your knife turns up Matus, you too Duncan

Before collecting knives, I used to collect Smiths wristwatches (nobody's perfect ) and to buy knives I sell some from time to time. Last year I sold one to a Londoneer, that, for some unknown and probably human reason, stayed in Roissy airport for two weeks (the watch! not the bloke :D), then visited Berlin before finally being delivered. As no parcel is sent from France without either a tracking n° or signed for delivery, I and the buyer could follow track (I choosed the first otion) with some delay and finally it was delivered about a month later than normal.
I thought within UE all parcels were tracked as well. Some destinations (even in UE) are known for the curiosity (to stay politically correct) of postmen and it is then mandatory to get an insurance along with traking n°.

edit : I wrote before reading your last post - If the parcel cannot be delivered, how comes it is not sent back to you?

I feel your pain matus, I really do. 2 packages of mine went lost last year, one is a great (I saw photos) custom knife that Evan made for me. Never arrived. Second a great and rather rare knife I sent over. Never arrived !!
It made me actually sick, till I decided to let it go.

On the other hand, I got a GAW knife after 5 months from US to Israel, it should have walked all the way on foot, or something.
Go figure.

Mike

I appreciate your stories :)

The package will not be sent back to me, because it was sent with a cheaper option without tracking and return possibility. So if it can not be delivered, it will be basically thrown away (or something like that). I have today let my friend know about it (not about the contents - it would drive him crazy) and he will contact local DHL and see whether there is anything that can be done.

Yeah, 'curiosity' (nicely put! :) ) is always an option, but to my experience rather rare in CZ. I myself come form country where 'curiosity' is not that uncommon, but postal packages rarely disappear. But who knows - the package was packed in a box from the chocolate-maker and maybe someone wanted to try them (I can not blame them for that - those are some of the best chocolate bonbons out there)

Mike, that is really tough to loose knife that was made for you. Indeed - one needs to be able to accept when things like that happen and let it go. I am still in the phase of hoping that the package will show up (though I am over the denial phase :D )

I live half an hour from the Amazon fulfillment center in which I once had a package shipped from. This is Southern California mind you. It got to see Hawaii and almost every other state except Maine and Alaska and ended up in Texas a few times took six months to deliver to me thirty miles away. Amazon and the postal service sure did hear it from me

I have to prevent myself from reading the tracking updates. I live in northern central MD, and have a PO box at a small country PO. My stuff comes in through Baltimore, is sent to a DC facility, which then routes my mail to my PO. Also, a PO in southern MD usually gets my mail, whoever has the same PO box number as me has told the staff about several packages which needed to be rerouted.

I feel your pain though. Whenever I sell or trade, I ship with insurance and tracking. For gifts, GAWs etc, not always.

But if you can track it then so can the receipient? Surely he can contact his local P.O. or DHL depot with the tracking number and its movements including non-delivery? I had a box take near 6 months to get to me from America. Not the sender's fault, nor the P.O. but incompetence from the Customs. They 'forgot' to send me a note telling me to pick up the packet, without the note I couldn't claim it...if I didn't claim it it would be sent back.....the only way I found out about it was by chance when I was at Customs to collect another knife. They asked me if I was waiting for another packet....That was in the near past when there were local customs depots, now it's all centralized in the capital city (450 kms away) they send you a letter, you go on line and pay the duty then they send the knife to you in the post. But, if they don't send you an alert....it will be my Bark River Aurora gone missing all over again :eek:

Well, that is the problem ... there is no tracking number with this type of package (like if you would send a letter) and there are no customs involved here. But yes, my friend will try to contact DHL and ask whether there was supposed to be a package delivered. Even if I did not get a tracking number (my fault indeed), I guess there should be some sort of trace since everything today is done digitally.

I thought all USPS packages have 50 bucks insurance and tracking these days? First class and up, not media mail, but you can't send knives media mail. I don't think it applies to Parcel Post.

No USPS on this side of the pond. This package was sent from DE to CZ within EU :)
