  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Some trekking photos (från finland)

Wouldn't mind visiting those parts! Gorgeous there! Thanks for posting.

Nice pictures, thanks. I've never been to Karhunkierros. Would love to, but I think I'd go crazy with the (too many) tourists.

I'll piggyback A.L. with some more photos a bit further up north from Karhunkierros, the UKK national park. I hope you enjoy these.

HawGorn, great shots, thanks!
The thing I desire more of finnish nature is some height differences.. Pretty much every place is just flat (although karhunkierros has some nice heights!). :D

It's true about the tourists, it's a shame. However, it's a good dayhike location. If you walk the small route by morning, there's just few people here and there (mostly sleeping in the shacks along the way). Don't worry about trying it out atleast once, it's beautiful there.

Beautiful shots.
I've wanted to visit Finland ever since I first read about Talvisota.
It looks like fatwood heaven there with all the pines.

The Finns came here this weekend ! One of the top Finnish rally drivers ,Jani Paasonen, was here in the beautiful Catskill Mtns of NY at the peak of the fall colors !!

A.L. I find there's plenty of height difference when you climb the side of Paratiisikuru up or to Sokosti with a full pack ;) But seriously, it'd be be fun to have bit more heights here and there.

MidwestDave, yes lot's of fatwood but as it is a national park it is verboten collect fatwood on most parts of it.

Brians, yes trout and grayling. I haven't tried fishing in the national park area, I allways have too heavy pack as it is and the wife probably couldn't stand waiting with nothing to do for her :(

Well, I live along the coast of northern Norway and wish it was a lot less height differences:).
As member of several forums I see this is a common tought.
The brits wish for snow, but I could do without.
It seems we all want something different than we are used too.
Guess that is why tourism was "invented".

Very true. I went to northern norway many summers back, it was fantastic as always. I loved to climb those steep hills, no mosquitos anywhere compared to lapland. :D
