Just a pic of some work by Johnny Stout, Billy Bates and our own Paul Long (Sheathmaker).

I have been admiring Paul's work for a while now.

Great looking rig, Gus. Am I recalling correctly that you mentioned something about Johnny Stout starting to turn out some nice slipjoints?

As you all may know, I am great fan of Paul's work. I was not always happy with the sheaths that I would receive with a knife. I would sent them off to various popular leather workers around the country. Quality was always pretty good, sometimes the turn around time was several weeks or even more.
I stumbled across Paul's name somewhere and was happy to see he was only about 25 miles from me. I sent him a little Marbles and asked for a plain, no inlay, no tooling sheath. I got the sheath in just a couple of days and blown away. Since that time he has made me more than few. :D We meet up from time to time at a local knife shop whenever he is in town. A good man and a nice guy. Kinda ugly lookin' though.;)

Not Gus (and don't imitate him on TV), but Johnny has produced several slip joints and was fortunate enough to handle one at Blade Show this year. I don't recall how many he has produced (at that time. . . .it was less than ten - - maybe Gus remembers the exact number), but it was phenomenal, to say the least. The fit and finish was spot on (typical Johnny Stout) ! What caught my attention. . . . .the walk and talk ! It has one of the smoothest blade actions I've ever handled ! In fact, I was so impressed. . . .I placed an order.

Fine pair, Gus !

Johnny made a doctor's knife for me and delivered it at Blade this year. I knew it would be a good knife, but Johnny did a "great" job. It is as spot on in all respects as anything in my collection.

I went ahead and ordered another one for next year. A stag split backspring whittler that I am looking forward to seeing before Gig, Blues and the rest of you guys make it so bad I'll be waiting years between his knives. :D.

P.S. (I did not buy that set, would like to but I better not. Darn washing machine bit the dust today in a big way, that means knife bucks get spent tomorrow on a silly washing machine.I hate it when that kinda stuff happens:grumpy:)

Very nice! Paul's work is exemplary ($5 word there but rightly placed :) )

And those knives look to be excellent as well!

That set that Johnny made was sort of a challenge, but they both fit well in the sheath and I guess it looks okay. That surely is some good photography, and Billy did a good job on the engraving. They were not yet engraved when I had them in the shop for the sheath.

Thomason you were doing really well on your post right up to the last line!

I appreciate the kind words from all of you, expecially Gary because his sheaths are flawless for sure.

The Johnny Stout pair and double-sheath by Paul are awesome, Gus.

I had my first dealing with Paul and received these two coverings this week. I haven't had time for new pictures, but Paul's image he sent me before mailing isn't too bad.

I found out that Paul goes out of his way to make sure he gets your order correct, then produces a terrific product in a short period of time. I was blown away, too. I am putting my next order together as we speak.

A good man and a nice guy, for sure. I can put up with some ugly for this quality. ;)

Thanks, Paul!

I have a Peanut from Johnny and a Doctor's Knife is on order (can't remember where I saw one? ;););) )

I have only two sheaths from Paul. They are works of art.

Great lookin pair, Gus!!!

Great lookin sheaths, Paul!!!

Joe (Canine) and others have been telling me about Paul's leather work. Next time I need sheath work, I will have to check with Paul
