Somebody Help Me!!! RC-5 or RC-6

Well, I'm gonna be a bit different and say take the money and get a HEST and an ESEE Lite Machete. You'll be able to perform a larger range of tasks than just the 6 or 5. The machete will chop better and the HEST will provide better smaller task work. Plus, you get a knife you can always have on you.

But, if I HAVE to pick between the 2, I'd go with the 6. I used to think a thicker blade was better but spending some time in the woods changed my mind.

Both are great knives and I'd bet the house that neither would let you down.I prefer the 6,but I won't say don't get the 5.

I just picked up a 6 yesterday. Luckilly, the store I visited had a 5 in stock as well, so I was able to handle both. I couldn't believe how much heavier the 5 was in the hand. I was looking for a big knife to keep in my EDC backpack, so I opted for the 6. I still might pick up a 5 sometime, but I don't see myself carrying it everywhere.

You are lucky. I wish there was a store down here in VA that stocked RATS and other high end blades.

I have had the 5 for a while, it was my first RAT/ESEE knife. I like it very much. It is a tank and awesome kinfe. However, I just got a ESEE 6 as a brithday gift. It feels much lighter and is very balanced. I can see ending up using it more than my 5. I love the weight and feel. They are both great knives just try them both out think about what you are going to use them for and make your call.

My theory is with ESEE knives when you try to choose between two, remember you will end up with both in time becuase they are so addictive. The 5 or the 6 the H.E.S.T or the Izula. They all are great. Good luck picking yours.

I have both the 5 and 6, and LOVE the feel of the 5 in my hand. Sure the 6 balances well, and feels more nimble, but the 5 just makes you feel like you can conquer the world.

my vote is for the 5, but YMMV. You can't go wrong either way!

I don't have the 5 so I can't compare side by side but, I really like my 6. It has a great feel to it, and IMO is just the right size. 3 and 6, you're all set. Again, in my opinion that is. I think it all depends on the person.

I am struck with the same dilemma. But leaning towards the 5.
I kinda ventured away from fixed blades because i am very happy with my buck 110. Since i got my Izula i am very impressed with ESSE, and we all know what happens after.... I just want something larger and tougher.

Great. I'm not the only one As has been noted, aesthetically the esee 5 just looks great. It looks like it has a great feel. I would like to handle them both but reality has me looking to these kinds of threads to get an impression. I may just leave this decision to a later time and pick up a junglas!!!!

ESEE5 or ESEE6 is a choice that is made depending on what you are going to use it for.

+1 , my 5's are really heavy compared to my friends 6, but he put diff handles on his anyways, but just depends what you will use it for. I find my 5 overkill for alot of stuff, but doesn't stop me, but than again if you have weak wrist or hands, you'll notice the fatigue. lol. Its a big boy, but thats how he was made :D

I say get both :) don't look back :)

I have used both the RC6 and the RC5 (borrowed from some friends). At the end of the day I choose the RC5. It is indestructible and I like the heft. It splits logs well, batons wood, stays sharp and will kill anything that needs to be killed. I understand why people love the 6 and have respect for that. For me the 5 is the way to go. Frankly either will make you happy and since they are guaranteed for life (either your life or the company's life) who cares. 10 years you can buy a 5 too. They are cheap enough.

I was looking at both and the biggest difference, to me, was the thickness of the knife. The 6 is .188" thick and the 5 is .25". That's a pretty significant difference of width in my mind when you're talking about something that's between 5" and 6.5" long in blade length.

check out th thread about RC3, RC4 and RC6 in hand... that will give you an idea on the size at least (there is a RC5 there too)...

I'd go with the 6 cuz i have it... and i like it... :D :D

I have both and I prefer the RC6 every time. It has more length and still lighter than the RC5. Don't get me wrong the RC5 is a BEAST but the RC6 is better for all around use, size and weight.

depends on what you need it for. I got my 5 because I wanted a knife that is bomb proof taking abuse in the bush. The 6 is great and as a matter of fact all RC knifes are durable and are great knifes you can depend on, but what you really have to decide on is what you need it for and which one feels right in your hand. if one of them feels better in your hand, it will get use more, work better at chores, and safer. you can't go wrong with a RC knife, good luck

Either one you get you'll be happy with. I prefer the 5 but got it with a SERE mindset and urban usage (prying, smashing glass, etc...).

If you're a knife knut like most of us, you will likely have a smaller backup blade for slicing with you anyways. I went for heft and shear toughness and bought the RC-5.
