I woke up to find a notification on my door saying "we tried to deliver" and it said "damaged"

There is a note attached from the postman that says

"mike this parcel came torn open with a leather sheath hanging out, and no other contents, not sure if there was anything in it"

GAAAAAH! Someone has a nice comp finish sarsquatch! I think the guy sent it insured, I HOPE.

Oh man that really sucks.I hope it turns up for you,but I have my doubts.:(

I just called and they said "the packing opened up somewhere and all that was in there was a leather strap"

I wanted to go down now to file a claim but the post master isn't in and won't be in until tuesday to see if I can file an insurance claim. Hopefully it's insured properly. eek

Torn?? Never, ever ... ever ... send a knife in anything other than a well-packed box. This gets my gray dander up.

The sender should definitely have insured it.

My condolences.

EDIT: As to PO claims, consult with our very own Esav Benyamin. He's a professional and can offer the best advice.

[I do remember Leatherman's unpleasant experience. In deference to that sad event, I shall say no more.]

sorry to hear it man, I got stung last year and still trying to work out a claim. Post office lost my Omega Seamaster Titanium. Did a trade with this guy in Canada and my watch went missing.

I sent his back so at least we didn't both loose out

OUCH.

Gimme a hint, i've never had a package lost/damaged before.

Well, over 600 bucks in sheaths, insured, and a brick wall around every corner, they will fight you on every front. DONT give up! DONT let them win! You will win out eventually especially if the sender insured the package.

Dont despair, and dont give up, fight fight fight. Even if the post office workers cringe when you walk in the door. Mine do, they hate when they see me coming but they realize I am in the right.

hey Dwayne - did you get my e-mail !!

My ASS that the box just opened up by itself. Some piece of S#*T postal worker has it. It amazes me that the most rugged part of the package mysteriously disappears but the cardboard miraculously survives. The USPS takes very little responsibility even with an insured item from my experience. If you want action write a letter as high as you can go and go to the media.

Damn! One of my worst fears when shipping anything. One of the reasons I won't ship anything that isn't insured and I always....and I do mean always....make sure the sucker is well pack. Knock on wood it's paid off....not saying it can't happen even after you do your best but at least I can walk away saying I've done the maximum.

Good luck....hope everything works out the way you want it and it happens quickly.

Mike, I'm sorry to hear about that. I've had good experience collecting on items lost or damaged in the mail. I would refrain from "going to the mattresses" until it was called for.

Yeah, i'm not going in there guns blazing. I called up and the guy was nice so I was polite back. I can't go in until tuesday because of the holiday, but i'm not going to be an a-hole to start out with. I've found that gets me no where, but if being nice doesn't do it, then this will.

It just really sucks because I shipped out my ASH yesterday as a trade for the missing knife, now i'm out a mid sized blade.
