Someone please explain Rockstead serial numbers/spec sheets to me

Thanks for the offer miso2, but I guess I will "let it go".... I love my Rockstead's and don't want to come off as taking shots at them or questioning their integrity, quality control, etc. That was never my intent, I was genuinely puzzled by the numbering vs the date and how to know how a knife I own personally fit's into the overall production history. I can't think of another example where a serial number 449 was sold three years after a serial 519 (cars, guns, knives, etc.. anything with a serial type numbering system basically)

I can understand your concern, and add I am aware of manufacturers that have non-sequential serial numbers —on their custom built products — for a variety of reasons. Some companies have to recycle alpha numeric numbers too.

I have seen serial number logs from companies that date back to the 1800's and you might be surprised by the lack of consistency in chronology and/or serial numbers.
