Another thing to consider is state knife laws on blade length. I'm not sure about AL, though I think it's the same, but in TX it's 5.5" max and under. So the 5 is good to go (other than stupid city codes) whereas with the 6 you'd have to be more mindful of where you use it.

i live in alabama as well and ive walked around in walmart with my becker bk2 on my belt and nobody pays much attention.its a common practice here in the south,being that most of us are outdoorsy. but i wouldnt carry it in a po or courthouse.i say get whichever one fits your criteria better.me,i like a thick blade on a survival knife.but thats just me.
