Almost all of the knife recommendation threads are somebody looking for the best user/EDC. The toughest, most reliable, best bang for buck, etc.

I'll admit that I am a very light user, for me, the asthetics are far more important. I haven't bought a new knife in months now because nothing has really caught my attention. To add an extra challenge, I'm on a budget.

Preferably around $50, but max $75.

My criteria are pretty much wide open;
Thumbstud/hole/flipper
Pretty much any lock is fine as long as it has one.
Steel doesn't really matter as long as it's not terrible (no AUS4, etc.).
Blade length I prefer around 3 but really 2-4 is fine.

What I'm really looking for is that second kind of cool as our friend nutnfancy likes to put it. Something unique.

The only thing that has kind of caught my eye is a Silver Kershaw Blur.

I'd look into the spyderco delica 4. Its a great folder for your price range. It has that unique style of spyderco along with a great lock and vg-10 steel. If you're looking for that "second kind of cool" that nutnfancy talks about you'll have to spend over 100. I belive that's his criteria for a second kind of cool.

Delica and Griptilian…seriously!?!? What the heck would you guys have recommended if I said I wanted a user?

Why couldn't a griptilian or delica be a user? I've had both as users for years and they were both fantastic.

I think the OP means he DIDN'T want user knives, but rather aesthetically pleasing knives. As in, I asked for pretty and got utilitarian. What would have I gotten if I had asked for utilitarian?

on topic: I've been eying (Mozilla thinks the "e" is dropped? Learn something new everyday) the Benchmade 10700 Nagara for some time. Simple, sleek, affordable, and a light user.

Benchmade Nagara?

It is more a gentleman's folder and has Ti handle slabs. Also has the Nak-lok which is basically a Spyderco compression lock but with a button to move the lock bar. The Ti is anodized a dark blue and it has a fancy pivot bolt.

I think thats what he is getting at, he asked for a usable looker, not a user. Atleast thats what I am getting from the post. Both the Spyderco and the grip are extreamely fuctional knives they lack a bit in the beauty department. What I would do is just brouse the online stores and knife company sites and finfd something that catches my eye, don't look at prices, just the pictures and specs. When you find something you like then look at the price and decide if you are willing to pay the price. You may end up paying more then your budget but you will get what you want. My BM710 was out side of my budget buy about 50 bucks but I dont regret it at all, best knife I own and the extra money was well worth it because I know it will last for a long time

Bingo ;)

The Nagara is very nice, it's definitely at the top end of the budget (as is the Blur) but I'll keep it in mind.

I looked hard and long at the 10700, but I am a lefty so I decided that the lock button may be in the way for me

Okay then, I recommend a Spyderco Chicago or Cat. Carbon Fiber is quite the looker. And the S30V blades are great.

I'm not a lefty but I would think it could be manipulated just fine left handed. Would just use your index finger instead of your thumb to press the button. The knife is drilled for both right and left hand tip up carry and both sides have the indentation milled for better thumb stud access.

I was more conserned with disengaging the lock with the edge of my hand in a full grip, or if I choked up on it. We don't have a Benchmade dealer near us up here so I wasn't able to test my theory. Maybe someday in my travels I will come across one and be able to handle it, if I feel I wont disengage the lock accidently I would buy one in a heart beat

Now those are nice. Like a mini-Sage.

I'm thinking it would be very easy to accidentally disengage the lock just by holding it left-handed.

Well I just tried and the way the knife locks into your hand the button is out of the way. Even choking up on it and putting the button under my finger on purpose and squeezing as hard as I can doesn't move the lock bar at all. I don't think it would be an issue.

Damn, Dekz!!! Just can't be happy with the E.T., huh? Don't ya realize you can mod the crap outta that thing - that was my plan anyways. Jus pokin at ya dude.

Seriously, I would go the Nagara. It already has beautiful lines that harken to late sixties with a stir of more recent technical competence. Think about it - Pimp the handles, file the back spacer, jewel the thumbstud, lanyard, etc., etc., etc.

Or... Just get the Terzuola Slipit and be done with it. Well, maybe some aesthetic tweaking.

Haha, see the E.T. is a perfect example of what I'm looking for. Well maybe not quite THAT wild, but something cool.

Ya know, maybe someday we should collaborate on how to pimp it. Maybe do it in stages.
