Something a little different... a shiv dagger

Long sleek handle DOES NOT complement the blade...it takes away, as does the flared end.

It looks artistic, intentional, and not to my aesthetic at all.
Well, you stand alone on this one, STeven. I have been staring at this, and deciding what appealed to me also. I found the slow taper growth of the handle expanding out to what appears to be exactly the blade width, very aesthetically pleasing and balanced to me. The amount of area of each is similar.

I see a little Burt Foster and a lot of teenager, which is why the racy knife dangerously exceeds the speed limit. The kid surely is a prodigy.
One of the best comments I have heard yet. What a riot!

Speaking of influence: That wooden scabbard has Tai Goo all over it.

Yes, Gabe: Add to Kart. Well put.

Chris has been posting for a little while and I always thought he was being excessively modest about being an inexperienced "newbie". I had no idea that he had only been smithing for two years. That just makes me want to drive up to Virginia and slap him....lol. He has been doing this about as long as I have and I wouldn't even dream of atttempting something like this little dagger. Methinks we will being hearing quite a bit from this young man in the future if he continues to make knives.

Great comments by all. Some good, constructive advice that Chris will surely soak up like a sponge.

I obsessed over this knife for a couple of days before pulling the trigger. I can honestly say this was one of my most enjoyable knife purchases. I look forward to seeing his progress over time.

Joe - Here's a quote from one of his posts in the Knifemaker's Gallery. Yes, excessively modest.

let me know what you think... i was going for an "antique" look. you think i could sell it?

hello all!
wow.. first i want to thank Kelly for writing such a glowing review, and then thank yall for the comments.. especially (not to nix the wonderful encouragment that has quite made my day) the constructive crticism.

i forged the blade out of a piece of W1 stock 1/2"square while i was working on a sword... and i totally agree both with the "handle is too long" argument as well as the "it isnt too long one" i didnt like how it turned out at first.. but it kinda grew on me.

as for influence, it really does have alot of fogg influence.. that is where i got the thought.. i wanted to try one of his shivs (thats also where i got the name). and i know i had seen a sheath like that one before.. but i didnt know where. i really do appreciate the comments and will apply them in the next knife.. and thanks so much for the kind words! it means alot to me. i have gotten so much help off these boards, this is what has helped me improve.
thanks again!
~Chris

Don't be a stranger, feel free to post them over here as you make them.

Nice to know there's a knifemaker just 40 miles down the road.
