Something a little different for me....

I had a repeat customer request a knife for his father-in-law for Christmas. He said his FIL really liked the Buck Model 119, and he asked if I could use that as a basis for my design. Here's what I came up with:

1/4" CPM154
Partial flat grind around 1-1/4" tall with a 1-1/2" blade width
Satin machine finish on bevels
5-1/2" cutting edge
11-1/2" OAL
Swedged clip
Customer requested cattle brand on reverse side (happens to be really similar to my maker's mark)
Black linen micarta scales with red vulcanized spacers
Corby bolts + Acraglas
Tapered tang

The balance is 1/2 a finger forward of where the index finger groove is.

This knife is fairly different from my typical work, but I enjoyed making it, and it turned out alright, I think. This is my first tapered tang (I really need to get a flat disc). There is still a bit of clean up work needed before delivery, and I'm going to make a kydex sheath. Thanks for looking!

Looks like a very nice interpretation of the 119 while maintaining a nice custom look to it. Well done.

Looking back at these pics....I really need to get my lightbox set up!! Sorry for the bad pics. It was late at night as it usually is when I take pics. :o

Thanks for the words. The handle was fun to shape, and it's comfy in the hand. At 1/4", it's no featherweight, but it is well balanced and pretty fast. The edge is rolled to a slight convex, and I'm betting it's going to be a great cutter. I hope the customer's FIL gets good use out of it. He runs cattle from my understanding and is a sporting man, so I bet he can figure out something for which to use it.
