I just came across a post in the exchange forum where the individual had two hard to find knives up for trade. I responded and the response I received was that I would have to send my knife first for evaluation.

I dug a little deeper, that is to say I checked the profile of the member, and he/she is a registered user with ZERO feedback and ZERO trade/sale history and no e-mail address listed. Whereas, I am a gold member with 100% positive feedback from several sales and trades. Not to say that I'm a rock star on this forum, but come on.

Does this request to send my knife first make ANY sense? I of course retracted my offer. I just had to share this little lopsided experience with you all.

Agreed on all above posts. I won't send a knife first even if the person had 100 ratings to my 50+. 50+ is plenty to have proven myself I think.

That sounds sketchy, you did it right, if anything they should be sending first since they have zero feedback. I mean cmon asking a gold member who has been around as long as you have is a bit insulting lol

Agree as well. Something just doesn't smell right there. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I wouldn't have done it either.

If a potential trader has zero feedback, I respectfully request that they send their item to me first. That isn't always well received, but hey, can't be too careful.

Absolutely not......if they have no feedback at all I would not have a problem asking them to send it first.

After a demand like that, I would hesitate to trade with him under any circumstances.

This thread doesn't belong in General Knife Discussion. I have moved it to FEEDBACK.

Just as a reminder folks, you need to activate/enable your email to do business in the Exchange. It's much safer than posting your email out for unregistered users to see. I think the Op just ran into someone that has no idea the way things work around here is all. Would I do business with him/her, not a chance.

Maybe suggest that THEY send their knife first? This does sound kind of sketchy, but we all started out here new on the forum with zero feedback. Maybe they are a collector who just now stumbled on the forum? If they won't ship first than I would not do this trade personally. Anybody with zero feedback or not much "street cred" here on the forum should understand the situation and be able to ship first. I remember when I first sold and traded here and I appreciated the buyer/trader putting some faith in my word at getting the knife to them. But, not everyone is as much of a standup guy as me :D

I can understand being new, but to request that someone with a proven track record and history send first to someone who has no track record or history sounds way off. I'm not even going to involve myself any further with trying to work out a deal. I think the best course of action would be to just walk away.

Thanks for the input.

Good Idea.
