Something along the lines of a nessmuk trio

I have been lusting after one of those beautiful Double Bit Axes with the curly maple handles. I also want a nice knife with handles that would match the axe as well. I would also like to get a fire piston made from the same wood. Possibly another Trapper style knife again made from the same wood. I would like this all to be in leather sheaths on a leather belt for a very pleasing setup. Is it possible to get several different makers to use the same pieces of wood without having to sell my houses? Anyone ever do this before?

Thats funny. :D

I have never tried that. I know a lot of makers will use wood that you provide, you just need to ask.

Take a look at Fiddleback (Maker here on BF) for the Nessmuk knife. He makes a fine looking knife IMO.

Lee Reeves makes a great double bit.

Not sure on the fire piston.

I would just email them on what there standards are for using customer provided wood.

Good luck, and great idea.

What you may be able to do is have the first maker make one, then when the next maker is ready to make their's, send them the first maker's work so they can select a piece of wood that closely matches.

Maple is pretty close to the same. Although, I've read that its a little too soft for the hatchet handle. I was thinking of making myself a whole set in Curly Hickory. Then you could make yourself a bow to match. Osage would work very well too! As would Ash.

Edited to add: Thanks T.;)

White Feather your idea is quite feasible. Just find a maker you like and ask them. I made a firesteel to match a Scott Gossman nessmuk for a guy. I recently bought the knife from him and got my own firesteel back.
