Something bad happened...

Actually, I have come from the other direction. I used to really "be into" guns and all of the various aspects of shooting. I used to have many firearms, but now I am down to just six: a Beretta 92FS, a Beretta 8045, a Winchester Model 94, a Mossberg 500 shotgun, a Savage .22, and a Steyr Scout. Got rid of the Ruger Super Redhawk, the S&W 686, the Bushmaster AR-15, The H&K 91, the Remington 870, the Remington Model 700, the S&W Centennial Airweight, the Glocks 17, 19, 21, and 30. Sucessfully resisted buying a whole host of others. I started getting into bows and knives.

Knives, while not any more economical to collect than guns, are more fun to buy. No background checks, no serial numbers, (usually), no earplugs/headphones, no strange looks at your obvious rifle case by the societal cowards. No reloading press to feed.

Each and every knife is a functional piece of art, unless it is one of those fake "display/fantasy" POS items. Engraving on a pistol looks retarded in my opinion, engraving on a blade or its bolsters, handles, etc., looks like it was meant to be.

Yeah, knives are cooler than guns, and less expensive to use on a daily basis. Guns are around my house "just in case" with all of the excitement of ownership that my fire extinguishers or my safe gives me--peace of mind, but no thrill. They just aren't as viscerally appealling to me anymore. I find myself rarely even bothering to hunt anymore with a rifle. I look forward to bow season. It is more challenging to stalk an animal down to forty yards or less with a bow than to shoot from 100 yards or even 250 yards and bring something down with a scoped rifle. I notice that bowhunters are way more likely to be in good physical shape than the average rifle hunter.

Knives are lusted after by me. They are way more elemental. The metal is better. The ergonomics on a good knife are better than the best ergonomics on any gun. A great knife is an extension of the individual's arm that no gun can ever be while the presence of failures to fire, jams, and aiming are all getting in the way of 100% reliability.

Go, wait until you are of age to buy a gun roadkill2. That thrill of ownership that should have been satisfied by your first .22 rimfire will go away pretty quickly if you were ever a true knife person to begin with. There is nothing wrong with gun ownership and most of the people I respect own some. Knife people are way more interesting people by and large.

In my book on a day-to-day basis, if the grabbers ever get my guns it will be a sad day, but certainly not the Armageddon that some folks entertain notions of having.

If they go after my bows and/or knives I say good luck, as I can make my own. Yes sir, edged weapons are a more satisfying hobby for many reasons.

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of the tyrant; it is the creed of slaves.

William Pitt, 1783

Ever try to slice a bagel with a gun?

Guns are weapons of necessity (God forbid!), or weapons of the chase, that can sometimes become very good applied art. As sporting goods, they are used for weapons training or for sports that derives from combat, as fencing derives from swordfighting.

Knives are the fundamental tool, the invention that makes human life, as opposed to ape life, possible. Secondarily, a knife can be a desperation weapon, but first it is the thing that makes food, clothing and shelter possible. And sometimes a knife becomes the cutting edge of art too.

I think he'll be back.

I think he will be back also in time don't know how much time but it will work on him everey time he spreads some butter on bread. One thing to keep in mind is I have cut myself many times and recovered just fine I dout if I would have shot myself that I would have faired so well food for thought.

Do like I do... collect BOTH!

Expensive, yes. But, it's easier to dice veggies & chicken for a stir fry with a knife than a Glock. And, it's much safe to hunt bear with a .308 than a SAK.

Besides, nothing compliments a custom knife more than a custom rifle and/or pistol.

You will have to skin the thing (deer, bear, rabbit). Or someone will have to. Got a good knife? Know what is the best and newest out for skinning? How about just good knife to open those boxes?

I remember the good ol' days. Of course I've been shooting for as long as I remember, so I've never felt compelled to choose between the two. Although my budget cycles from knives to guns and back, I've never lost interest in either. I don't think roadkill will either.

Guns are my hobby,
but Knives are my passion.

When he finally gets his gun I bet he puts a bayonet on it.

P.S. And if I know youth the age thing won't stop him from his desire!

Like many, I too have made the transition after spending a couple of decades being a gun-nut. Every so often, I look at what's going on in that realm, shrug, and go back to pouring through the latest knife rag.

It'll take some time, but he will come back once the thrill wanes.

I have to admit to being both. I agree that nothing compliments a fine custom firearm than a fine custom blade. I'm still deeply into my firearm collection, and now I'm fulfilling a long-standing desire to put a great blade with each firearm. And boy is it fun!

I am BOTH. Its a wicked addiction. But add in my other Lusts... I really have a problem!

Lets see here - NOT IN ORDER:

Guns
Knives
Aviation - Personal and Private (commercial is justa buncha big busses)
Motorcycles.
High Performance Autos (cars guys - guns and knives already mentioned)
Rally Racing
Mexican Food
Computer Hardware
Computer Games (silly - but I Love Rainbow Six and RTS type games - Dune 2000 is a clasic but Star Craft is my fav)
Writing Fiction and articles
Buying Commercial properties...
Working my bunz off all day and all night - living off 4-6 hours max sleep when I can get it - downing shocking amounts of MT DEW and or DR Pepper.
Monitoring The Firing Line (Yeah - I'm George) and hanging out here too... (want to win a knife here!)
Playing with my 4 sons, and my wife...
Movies - when I can - about 2twice in a 3 month period. (Pirated CD versions when I can't)
Thats about it really.
Pretty boring stuff...

I mean, if I went around saying I was an Emperor because some
moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, people would put me away!

It's no heresy to lust after guns ... kind of like leaving bowies to lust after tantos for a while. It'll probably last all your life, but it's unlikely to so consume your soul you have no room for other lusts too -- not for long. Even if it did you could leave with our blessings ... just drop by the tactical forum now and then; we talk about guns there too....

But if any of the Faithful is even thinking of abandoning knives to lust after Beanie Babies, prepare thyself to receive the Curse of the Cougar!
