Actually, I have come from the other direction. I used to really "be into" guns and all of the various aspects of shooting. I used to have many firearms, but now I am down to just six: a Beretta 92FS, a Beretta 8045, a Winchester Model 94, a Mossberg 500 shotgun, a Savage .22, and a Steyr Scout. Got rid of the Ruger Super Redhawk, the S&W 686, the Bushmaster AR-15, The H&K 91, the Remington 870, the Remington Model 700, the S&W Centennial Airweight, the Glocks 17, 19, 21, and 30. Sucessfully resisted buying a whole host of others. I started getting into bows and knives.
Knives, while not any more economical to collect than guns, are more fun to buy. No background checks, no serial numbers, (usually), no earplugs/headphones, no strange looks at your obvious rifle case by the societal cowards. No reloading press to feed.
Each and every knife is a functional piece of art, unless it is one of those fake "display/fantasy" POS items. Engraving on a pistol looks retarded in my opinion, engraving on a blade or its bolsters, handles, etc., looks like it was meant to be.
Yeah, knives are cooler than guns, and less expensive to use on a daily basis. Guns are around my house "just in case" with all of the excitement of ownership that my fire extinguishers or my safe gives me--peace of mind, but no thrill. They just aren't as viscerally appealling to me anymore. I find myself rarely even bothering to hunt anymore with a rifle. I look forward to bow season. It is more challenging to stalk an animal down to forty yards or less with a bow than to shoot from 100 yards or even 250 yards and bring something down with a scoped rifle. I notice that bowhunters are way more likely to be in good physical shape than the average rifle hunter.
Knives are lusted after by me. They are way more elemental. The metal is better. The ergonomics on a good knife are better than the best ergonomics on any gun. A great knife is an extension of the individual's arm that no gun can ever be while the presence of failures to fire, jams, and aiming are all getting in the way of 100% reliability.
Go, wait until you are of age to buy a gun roadkill2. That thrill of ownership that should have been satisfied by your first .22 rimfire will go away pretty quickly if you were ever a true knife person to begin with. There is nothing wrong with gun ownership and most of the people I respect own some. Knife people are way more interesting people by and large.
In my book on a day-to-day basis, if the grabbers ever get my guns it will be a sad day, but certainly not the Armageddon that some folks entertain notions of having.
If they go after my bows and/or knives I say good luck, as I can make my own. Yes sir, edged weapons are a more satisfying hobby for many reasons.

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of the tyrant; it is the creed of slaves.
