Something different from Ed Fowler.

Holly Hootin Hell!!!!!!!!!!

Now that is a set . I just don't understand why people think a pretty knife can't be put to work . Sure that pair cost thousands but who ever got them could certainly afford it . I like it .

I also got to hold both these pieces at that Show. I unabashedly stroked both the knife and the Axe for quite some time.

I was totally in awe of how Light the Axe was, even though the Axe cutting edge was at least 4" wide. I had the gall to ask Ed if he had ever used it. :) He said he had, and the way that it cut was amazing for its weight.

The other thing that I couldn't get over was the degree of detail in the carving on the Guard of the knife and the matching engraving on the Axe head. What is not so noticeable in the picture is that the guard is shaped (in 3D) like an Eagle's head with the point of the Beak being the tip of the guard. The Axe then depicts that Eagle on the sides and though I looked at both for quite a while I was not able to tell any difference in the two Eagles. Beautiful execution and certainly attests to the talent that went into these pieces.

I was doing pretty well monetarily back then so I did entertain buying the two pieces, especially considering that this was only Ed's second collaboration. The other with Mr Appleton was more unique IMO since they made a Folder together. And if you have read Ed's book you certainly know his stand on Folding knives.

As far as seeing Ed's spirit in the pieces, I do. The forged shape and overall appearance of the Blade certainly say FOWLER to me. I'd hope that Ed had a good time doing the collaboration but I know from handling these beauties that he didn't compromise his principles of creating high performance cutting tools.

Hillbillenigma, I would like to thank you for your additional discription of this great knife and hawk. Thanks to you I now know more about them then I did before.

Guy, I doubt that Ed will get together with Joe to make another knife. At least not like this one. He kind of likes to keep these as one of a kinds. Sure would love to have something like that to keep my other knives company though.
