Here's a picture of the finished blade for the J., Mike, Mace...(Tess?) NECKA collab. knife. Mike forged out cable damascus and drew out some wrought iron. I took it, San Mai'ed it and forged/HT'd/ground the blade, leaving some forge marks (just on the ricasso and top edge, the rest is the WI). It's 9 1/2" long, 1 5/16" wide at the edge and 5 /16" at it's thickest. It's flat ground with a distal taper, it'll have a convex edge when it comes back to the mountain. I etched the blade in ferric like I do my damascus and then coated the exposed cable core with clear nail polish, then etched it for a few hours in vinegar to give the WI time to slow, slow etch and show more grain. Mike is planning on forging out some more cable and making an "S" guard to match. Can't wit to see what Mace comes up with. I think it would make a good primitive piece. What do you think?
