Here's a picture of the finished blade for the J., Mike, Mace...(Tess?) NECKA collab. knife. Mike forged out cable damascus and drew out some wrought iron. I took it, San Mai'ed it and forged/HT'd/ground the blade, leaving some forge marks (just on the ricasso and top edge, the rest is the WI). It's 9 1/2" long, 1 5/16" wide at the edge and 5 /16" at it's thickest. It's flat ground with a distal taper, it'll have a convex edge when it comes back to the mountain. I etched the blade in ferric like I do my damascus and then coated the exposed cable core with clear nail polish, then etched it for a few hours in vinegar to give the WI time to slow, slow etch and show more grain. Mike is planning on forging out some more cable and making an "S" guard to match. Can't wit to see what Mace comes up with. I think it would make a good primitive piece. What do you think?

Hey guys, that looks great! Nice start on a unique knife, and all for a good cause too. Cant wait to see the finished product.

J I hate to say it but I think you should send that one to me for proper disposal and start over. ;) But if you all are stubborn and just have to finish it anyway, I can't wait to see the finished knife. For a minute there I thought the thing was done - that'd be a world record for a collaboration knife! :D I'm hoping you guys will finish it in less than two years... :D

Keep up the fine work and thanks for the update.

Thanks guys. We didn't want to etch three names on the blade so Mace is going to put a plate or something on the handle we can all etch our names on. I think Tess will end up doing the sheath. I hated to send the blade home with Mike. ;)

edited to add- Dave, I'm hoping it's done by Timonium but, I'm not going to count on it. That would be a great show for a first appearance.

Any one hear from Spangler? If he gets me the blade and guard soon I'll try my best to get the handle done for Timonium. Not promising, but I'll try.
Mace

Hey Mace, I've tried e-mailing you his #'s but, sometimes I can get through and sometimes it comes back. Re-send me your e-mail addy and I'll give you the info. Thanks.
I'm really looking forward to this one. :D

ps- I don't want anyone to feel rushed to finish this up. I just thought the Timonium show would be a good "first showing". Take your time and do what you want to do with it. Tess still has to do a sheath on top of everything else so we'll see. No sweat.

J.,
You can try me at macevitale@yahoo.com or mvitale139@earthlink.net

I don't think I will be able to make the Timonium show but I figured I might be able to do the handle. I have some ideas, but I won't know what I will do for sure untill I get that blade in my hot little hands. :D

Do you have any more of that billet left or did it all go in the knife? I might have an idea for it if you have some left.
Mace

Edit to add: I don't want any one to feel rushed either, so, Mike if you see this take as much time as you need and I will too, no sense in rushing what could be.

I'll make sure GrassHoppa gets the message. He hasn't been here to make any Damascus this week, but I did give him a piece of cable damascus a few weeks ago.

Damn - you guys make nice knives. I like the pattern in it. Looking forward to seeing it finished. I like the rough / etch look.

hey Guys its grasshoppa, i havent been able to do any work on it yet. time was cut short with a heavy work load this past week, we make extra cakes and whatnot to sell for the holidays, that means really long hours. i'm hoping to make the guard on saturday and have it on its way to mace next week.

Nice to hear from you mike, to bad we had to see George's face though. Like I said...no rush...take your time.
Mace

P.S. How does that whatnot taste? :barf:
