"Keychain knife"? What about a smaill folder like the Spyderco Delica or Buck 110 clone that is smaller. For fixed blade try a Cammillus Arclite.
 
Its strange that this post has been resurrected. She's lived with me for the past year, and coincidentally, she is moving BACK home, to attend graduate school. We discussed this on the very day that someone resurrected this thread.

BTW I gave her an old delica, and got her a jester :)
 
This matter has already been solved, but just for the record, heres my two cents. If she doesn't have any SD training, a machine gun wouldn't do her any good. Any weapon in untrained hands may be turned on the user.
