Updated: I will include a premium hand stitched leather sheath, custom made to the knife in your choice of color. Hopefully that sweetens the pot enough...
I wanted to do something a bit different on this one, which can sometimes be bad, but I think in this case it is good, maybe very good. This is basically a beefed up version of the slim wharncliffe I posted a while back. It is also the hardest to photograph knife that I've built to date.
The blade is hollow ground, with an unsharpened swedge. I kept it thick enough to stay strong, but thin enough that this thing cuts like a laser. The straight razor guys are really liking XHP, and that is, in essence, what you have here... a big, scary, straight-razor-on-a-stick.
When I finished this one, my normal sharpness tests were a bit irrelevant, so I went straight to the bathroom and slapped on some shaving cream. It worked. (the knife was very well cleaned afterwards, just FYI, I only did a small test patch).
If you do happen to buy this, and decide to cut some paper with it, I suggest you limit the size of your paper supply and do it over a trash can, or else you will be unable to stop, and will soon have quite a mess on your hands. Once I realized paper was too easy, I moved to thin thermal printed receipts, and once I realized that was too easy, I got out that tissue paper stuff that you put in gift bags, and was left over from Christmas wrapping. Luckily I was able to clean up the mess before my fiancé got home.
Keeping in theme with the moniker "slim wharncliffe", this thing is surprisingly light for its size... only 6.2oz, being 10.75" OAL w/a 4.75" edge length. I went with a pinless design to keep the look as clean as possible, but the tang is quite secure. It is nicely balanced and handles like a sports car. This is one of those knives where as soon as you get it in your hand, you start looking for stuff to cut.
CTS-XHP @61 w/cryo, .159" thick
10.75" OAL, 4.75" edge length, 6.2oz
Buckeye Burl stabilized by K&G, 416ss guard
Slim hollow grind with unsharpened swedge, slight distal taper
slightly convex bevel, hand stropped to beyond shaving sharp
Sheath available upon request, sheaths are made to order for each individual knife, so there will be a slight delay in delivery if you need a sheath.
I'd like $200 shipped for this one.
