Something I've been "dyeing" to show

some of the dyed stag i've seen looks pretty interesting, especially since the stag was kinda plain jane to start with.

That clinches it! This will be my weekend project seeing the wife will be out of town :D I will be heeding Meako's advice and cooking this on the bbq burner OUTSIDE

Case makes them in red too. :) But you did a nice job and it looks good. Does the dye come off on your hands or pockets or is it very stable? I haven't tried it. I had a Frost Steel Warrior Trapper that turned everything blue...Not sure what sort of dye they used. I've thought about attempting to make my own handle covers.

I'm not sure if it will work but you might try the Mr Clean Magic Erasers on the spots left on the kitchen counters.

Cheers-no leaching of the dye it seems very stable and has covered well. I gave it a coat of bee wax and carnuba wax furniture polish last night and it buffed up beautifully.
A bit of WD40 on the blades and inside seems to have calmed the corrosion of the salty dye mixture. I'm sure that given time the marks will fade into the patina.
I'll try the magic eraser  probably got one left from the last time somewhere:p

Re the doghouse- I never stay in there very long -I'm a trustworthy hound and I'm kept on a long chain;)

I get the feeling that wives can see things that are out of the husbands spectrum.
heres the amber bone as it was originally -stock pic

Very interesting. I have tried some dyeing, with overall less than positive success. I may have to play around with this again.

Cool mod!

Great job meako, the knife looks awesome! I never thought to try dyeing any of my knives but I think I may try my hand at it next year. On the far end of my property I have two mulberry trees and not far from there we usually get some tall pokeberry plants. I've been trying to think of some use for the pokes and nobody else here likes mulberries (lunatics!) so now I'm thinking maybe I should cook up some natural dye and see where it goes. Thanks for the inspiration!

(i'll be sure to use the side burner on the grill as well! :D)

Figured I would start with the old Case whose pile side was just awful. Turned out well enough I followed suit with my NF Barlow. I absolutely love the Barlow now as I favor chocolately stag. Thanks for the push, Meako!
