Something i've been thinking about regarding the warranty...

I know Busse has a great warranty but here's a question. I was considering something like a SHBM or maybe a SHSH, I think it's one of the coolest designs out there, but they're quite pricey, especially the SHBM. If I bought one it would absolutely be a user, what would happen if it was badly damaged? Replacement? how? Credit for the knife? How would that work? If I paid 1200 for the knife, and it originally sold for 400, i'd be out 1/3 my investment? Just curious is all, since most of my knives are from the secondary market and no longer being run.

Busse would take care of you, remember their knives are warrantied for life.

I read they have blanks for replacements if needed etc or they could make a new one.

I don't believe that's what I've heard. You may get "stuck" with a shop credit if they can't repair your knife.

Jerry will warrant for the original price. He couldn't warranty on the inflated secondary market prices. He will do his very best to make you happy.

They certainly have blanks for at least some of the old stuff, as seen by the occasional old stuff and custom shop variants that trickle out at shows, but I could see there being a problem if it was something that was both out of blanks and gone from the CNC programs. Like some of the old handle patterns they can't make anymore, so if you busted your handle and they didn't have one in a box somewhere, you'd end up having to get a different handle on it.

Of course, I think it's kind of absurd to pay a 200% markup on a user knife when there are so many other knives available that will fill the same role for a lot less money.

You're probably right, but I think it's even more absurd to pay aa 200% mark up on a safe queen. That said, maybe i'll just avoid the SHBM and buy a Bushwacker, it seems pretty close

At least with the safe queen you know your investment is probably safe. :p

But yeah, the BWBM is much more up my alley - factory prices for a blade that will do everything you want it to do. That's a no-brainer.

This has come up before a time or two in the last couple of years.

I believe they'll replace it with a new one if the materials/etc are available.

No, secondary market prices aren't taken into consideration.

No, you can't get some of the older handle patterns anymore (such as rope cut).

Yes, they rule and will do a lot to make you happy.

And so on and so forth.

Unless you're a nutjob with a hammer and mission, you're not going to break an old Straight Handle. Get what you like and use it with some common sense. My SHBM is a go-to favorite. Doesn't hurt that it was a freebie though.

But the note about shop credit is right, from everything I've read. Trouble there is, the SHBM's were just a few hundred dollars. :p

Nope, I don't hit my knives with hammers, I don't even own a hockey mask :D

There's just something about that SHBM that i'm in love with.

The SHBM speaks to me too.

I don't think you will have any problems. They are still making SHBMs, just very rarley. They have been for sale at blade and knob creek. Whatever happens I'm sure Jerry will take care of you.
So, if you get one, BEAT IT!!!!

Probably the best looking Busse i've ever seen. Is the spine polished?

Partially. Just around the handle.

If someone wants an SHBM, the BWM LE is durn close, from where I'm sitting. Not quite exact, but durn close.

EXACTLY! And it won't cost a thousand dollars. And it probably gives less of the the Busse Pinky, although I wouldn't know, since I've never used an SHBM.

Someone send me an SHBM to use, and then I will be able to make a more informed contribution :D :D :D

This thread got me to wondering. Has anyone heard about an old Straight breaking?

I remember the SHBA that got shot, but it survived just fine. Cliff Stamp wore his SHBM out, but he didn't break it while most of the steel was still there. Cobalt throws his SHBMs like they're lawn darts, but he never broke one. (Lost one in the river, but that's another story.) I honestly have never heard of a Straight snapping. I'm sure it's happened. I've just never read about it here.

I dunno, maybe.....

I can say that if someone did break one they really had to work at it. :D
