just a little constructive criticism here, but that handle doesn't look quite as comfortable as your regular ones, especially with the pins protruding from the bolster. Huh, that must be an art knife.
;):D

Lorien- You just saved me a bunch of finishing work! Thanks!!! :D ;)

This knife was purchased a long time ago... in Spokane, WA, at the official ABS hammer-in auction.

Ed Caffrey forged the blade from 5160 to demonstrate blade forging to the new guys in the "Green Coal" area set up with several forges and anvils.

Jerry Fisk cleaned up the profile and used it to demonstrate rough grinding during his forged blade, grinding demo.

They started to put it in the auction as is... when I asked them if I threw in my time for finishing it out for the potential buyer, if it could be finished as a collaboration among the three of us. Both Ed and Jerry agreed :) This was a big deal to me, as I was getting permission from two VERY well known Mastersmiths to include their name on a knife that needed all kinds of finish work from a knife nobody named Me. :)

Mitch Lum was the high bidder. :)

I heat-treated, finish ground it, tested it with a bunch of cutting chores, hand sanded to 600X, etched the names (Hmmm... the things I could do with that Fisk stencil ;) :p ) have the 416 ss bolsters fitted and just need to do the scales.

This is one of those long overdue projects on the shop schedule. I could explain why... but the important thing is that it's nearly done.

Mitch will be the deciding factor in handle material :)

Thanks for looking :)

Anything but stag or ivory would be criminal. Good for you Mitch!

Pearl would be nice, and unusual, coral could be interesting, and if Nick worked with them, any number of minerals might be exceptional....I prefer stag, but the materials just listed would hardly be "criminal".

That would be a keeper. You could put stabilized dog poo handles on that one and it'd still be awsome.

I really like the look of ram horn. On this little guy for sure:thumbup:

Nick - you shouldn't associate yourself with those lesser makers. They're all about large volume production, whereas you're all quality at no volume whatsoever. :D :D :D

Aw cmon
thats a 4" dropped, forged hunter and you are going to put a rock on the handle?

Mitch,
Haven't heared hide nor hair of you in over a year... And you go and score a Hat Trick like this... Dang, I'm at least glad this is going to someone I know!!!
She'll be a beaut no matter what you choose for the handle!

Jasper would look nice.;)

I didn't say, "Nick, put reconstituted turquoise on the handle, it's KEWL"...but if Mitch shot a Gemsbok or Water Buffalo in Africa, hunting alongside Joe Paranee, that would be nice, too...and not criminal.:D;):D

Best Regards,
