I've finally saved up the $$$ required to grab one of my grail knives; a large Seb 21 (or 31). After visiting my local brick-and-mortar though, I discovered the thing is tiny in my hand!

I'm wondering if there's a similar style and build quality of knife within the same price bracket, but more suited to a giant like myself. Not picky on the brand, as long as they have a reputation for high calibre product. Between 9 and 9.5 inches is ideal. I'll be using the blade as a light-duty EDC, with the possibility of camp chores on occasion.

Appreciate the input guys!

Can you elaborate? When you say "something like" a Sebenza, do you mean the same price, the same level of quality, the same blade shape, the same opening method, the same materials, or what?

Are you set on thumbstuds? Does it have to be titanium slabs? Tell us more . . .

Most knives are not over 9 inches because it's not practical for the majority of consumers since they don't have Sasquatch hands. The cold steel recon 1 is one that comes to mind. There are also a few medfords and I think Andrew Demko has made larger versions of the AD10 as well.

I think some knives from CKF run larger as well. I know the Kadat I have is about 9.5 inches.

Olamic makes high-quality folders that are in your size range. Go to BladeHQ and look at the Olamic folding models and select the option for blades 4 inches or larger. Lots to choose from.

Olamic will also help you build your own. You can email them and see what you can come up with. The company has a build-your-own option on its website.

You might also look at the Benchmade Rukus 610. It's a discontinued model, but you can find them for $300-$350 in excellent condition. The overall length is just over 10 inches, with a nice big handle. They are heavy duty knives with a slicing grind and a fairly pointy point. They are thick in the handle, but not wide -- meaning you can get an excellent grip without losing much pocket space.

You can have a look at the Olamic Rainmaker, Medford Marauder and
maybe CJF, Hoback and sharp by design...

Liong Mah makes some larger titanium framelocks. They'll be flippers though, not thumbstuds. Most of these knives were manufactured by Reate, so the quality will be there. These are all well made 4" blades with overall lengths around 9".

As others have asked, it would be nice to know what a Sebenza means to you, there are lots of different takes on that theme.

Xm 24. That large blade snapping into position is somewhat satisfying

Thanks for the replies so far. I just got home from work and wasn't able to participate until now.

Olamic and Reate have been on my radar for a while now, as has Hinderer. And because of this thread, I now have a few models to help me narrow my search. I like what I'm seeing!

I guess what I think of when I think Sebenza is a simple, cleanly-designed cutting tool. It doesn't look overly busy or intense. Lightweight but sturdy and reliable. Understated elegance. Quality materials, but not quite pocket jewelry. Not sure if that makes sense.

And as far as how big my hand is....I haven't measured. I'm 7ft1 tall, and I suppose my hands are proportionate?

If you want simple and clean design, the Liong Mah production knives by Reate would work well. Medford is “simple,” although not necessarily “clean,” depending on your aesthetics. They’re definitely beefy though.

One other option, if you can carry an auto, is the ProTech Brend line. The large is 4.6” blade, and the medium is 3.75” - you’re probably big enough to be able to go with the large.

"Tiny"? Are you sure you were not actually holding a small? The large sebenza is by no means a tiny knife...

Look at the Cold Steel Frenzy 2. Big but light, with good materials. Probably plenty strong. 5.5 inch blade and 6.25 inch handle.
Other Cold Steel large knives are a possibility.

I was also going to suggest cold steel. Their larger knives can be a pocket full, but not for someone your size. The triad lock is plenty strong and their handles are shaped to support multiple grips.

XM-24. On paper it seems pretty big. I want one.

Les George Talos or Wilson Combat Talon. Not "big" knives but a little more substantial than the Senenza 21. Fantastic, fantastic knives.

Combative Edge M1 or G1
