No, that's not it- I was just feeling silly for completely misreading your original post. Don't worry about it. Bucks are nothing to be ashamed of anyway. (I forsee a "Buck Pride" movement being born out of this...)

Matt,
I have neither the knife design skills you have nor the survival training of many here but I have spent most of my life outside with a knife on my side. Backpacking, camping, farm life, etc... My ideal knife right now is my Busse Zero Tolerance Natural Outlaw- Now, what would make it my absolute choice:

1) Checkering or grooves on the spine for thumb purchase- regular grip and chocked up on the choil.

2) slightly thicker grips.

3) no swedge- swedge not good for batoning.

The sheath:
Kydex with large drain hole at tip of blade. Cordura covered with secure pockets for ceramic/steel and firesteel. Kydex removable by removing a screw through cordura.
For real users, my opinion is that the exact steel is not critical as long as it is a reputable tool steel. & a satin finish that drives up cost is not needed.
Luck,
Bill

Great Question!
I've owned and used a lot of knives over the years, big ones, small ones, cheap ones, and expensive ones. Of late I find myself reaching for my Cold Steel SRK the most often. I've come to apprecieate its mid-size and overall utility. However its not quite perfect.
As a start point;
SRK Blade size and shape.
Full tang extended just beyond the scales for pounding.
No finger guard...This is a wilderness knife not a fighter.
Flat grind for ease of resharpening.
Micarta scales
Blade VG10.I have an Al Mar SERE 2K and have come to love this steel.
A well designed Kydex sheath is great for field use, but, a REALLY GOOD leather sheath should be an option.

I like the piggy back idea too. 4" drop point full bellied skinner, and 8" clip point utility. Kydex sheath, good stainless with differing treatments. And ergo friendly handles for hard work. Not looking for a work of art, but a working combo with proper geometry and grind.

hey pinoy knife,
let us know what you are thinking whe you have reviewed the thread and what ideas you like.

Ok Guy's it Look's like a Piggy back pair is a Popular idea ! , I Will play with this for a week or so , meanwhile Guy's please post link's to what blade's you like so i can check them out !
I May try a "Medium sized blade " Just for Fun "

Thank's Again all i will check back on Tues Morn .

as important as the knives is the sheath which should hold some minimal survival gear, a fire starter, a sharpener, some paracord. so some thought needs to be done on sheath design also.

i like some of the blades from knives of alaska-- their bear cub and the brown bear cleaver are some of the blades that come to mind.

Handle/ Handle material anything except Ivory. Please Guy's i really want to see this !! if you dream about a buck knife tell me what you love about it and why ?

Thank's Everyone !

Matt / Pinoyknife :)

Here's what I'd like to see in my survival knife:
large recurve blade, 3/16" or 1/4" stock
Point strong enough for prying in wood, acute enough for detail work like cutting out a splinter, etc.
Full tang with extended pommel for hammering; possibly an integral design.
large integral guard
01 or D2 tool steel
micarta scales

Knives I'm looking at that meet these criteria:
Dervish (Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works) Triton (I'd love a recurve blade though)
Tim Britton Terminator 3 - (I have one on order)
Busse Mr. Mojo (I currently use one of these) Could be a little bigger, more aggressive point, but this fills my needs right now. Excellent ergonomic grip, great snap cuts, excellent chopper.
Kevin Cashen recurve. In 4 years I might have one :)

Thank's For the Link's that was kind of what i was hoping to get , Pictures of Favorites , but i still like the "Piggy Back" idea may do a Pair just for fun in 5160 , with leather , micarta handles , possibly Caribou horn for handles , Full tang so you can " Beat it" a little .

Thank's Guy's i will post pictures when these are done !

Matt / Pinoyknife.com:)

Maybe an 8 - 10 inch blade with a drop point and a shape that is a mix between a parang and a bowie ??

Sort of reminds me of the one I already have ;)

Still working on it guy's i am thinking something like me avatar for a chopper Forged in about a 10/12 inch blade , handle will probably be micarta , a utility knife will be attached to the scabbard as a hi Khukri but inthe middle if the scabbard instead of on top , a little harder to get at but i hope that mean's less likely to loose also .

thank's guy's i promise to post pic's as soon as i can :)

Sounds like it will be awesome. Can't wait to see what you've come up with!
