Recommendation? Something Similar

Here's the pics of the copper patina. The pictures don't really do it justice because the colors change depending on the angle you are looking at them.

That's pretty sweet, I've never seen copper pitina on a knife. I like the lanyard hole, too. It does seem like a pretty large knife, like it fills the hand and then some.

Yeah that's the larger version, there's another one that's close to the size you're looking for, but I'm pretty sure only the large one has the lanyard hole.

I hear you about the lack of a GEC 83 in stainless! It's a fantastic compact lock back and I have two examples of it but would really like a stainless version too. I'm also a fan of Drop Points as the blade lies low in the frame enhancing carry in my view.

I second the Moki suggestion, simply impressive fit&finish on their knives. Have a look at the Blakiston's Small Fish Owl it's almost exactly the same size as the GEC, linerless G-10 is both tough and yet very light, the AUS 8 steel pleases me too.

Regards, Will

Here's my 83 (drop point) next to my mini copperlock for comparison.

As for the 1095 on the #83, I've had no problems. It got an accidental patina (spilled cranberry juice) on part of the blade, so I forced the rest. I've carried it everyday in my watch pocket for about a year up until a week ago. Toiling and sweating in humid summertime Pennsylvania heat, in rain, all sorts of conditions without issue. I do wipe it down, use frog lube occasionally, and oil the pivot regularly.

That being said, there were some of those instances above where I knew the knife was soaked for awhile, and wished I had stainless in my pocket instead...just for peace of mind.

Thanks for the comparison shots. It makes me want an 83 pattern even more. Oh if it were only stainless! Like I said earlier though, and definitely after hearing yours and others stories, I'll probably still pick one up used if I can. I've got my eye on a mini copperlock right now, hopefully the 83 will be next

If I see one on the exchange I'll let you know. There's not a ton listed, but they're not rare either. A camel bone was just on the other day...most of them are drop points though.

I have a mini copperlock coming through a family member, I'm eager to give it a try.

I also went ahead and picked up a Sodbuster Jr. in CV to test out. We'll see how much maintenance it is for me, how quickly it pitinas, if it's going to rust on me, etc.

I figured for the price it was worth getting a "beater" to see what happens. I'm still scoping an 83. We'll see what happens! :D

Sounds good. Remember you only need one knife, but you can never have too many.
