markisharp sent be a design for a self defense knife that I`ll be showing tomorrow. This knife is one of the most wicked knives I`ve ever made!

Im excited and flattered that John is just as excited as me on this one. Its my first knife design and John help with all the details, I hope you all like it when he posts up the pictures. Johns craftsmanship and attention to detail is going to shine through on this Im sure!

Here we go! Overall, it`s about 10", with a 5 1/8" blade, 1/8" thick, with a small exposed pommel. This one has black canvas micarta, and blue liners.

Left side, with shallow chisel grind.

Works equally well in standard hammer grip......

Mark - Thanks for the opportunity to make this, I enjoyed it!

John it turned out beautiful and I cant wait to start carrying it. It came out just like I pictured and the suggestions you had made the complete package just perfect. I cant wait to get it! Thanks again! So what are you naming it?

Ok that's pretty cool! As a martial arts instructor I can see some uses for that. Can you give us the thoughts behind the design, the how, where, and why of it? I love stories!

I`ll let Mark give his thoughts on it, he designed it. All I can say is that I can see a smaller version of this being a wicked neck knife!

Ill give it my best Rockywolf. Just remember sometimes there is no method to a mans madness and Ive never been accused of being mentally stable haha. Well first off Im a peace officer for the City of Cleveland. Specifically I tend to work on the eastside at section 8 apartments. Im armed but 9 out of 10 over penetration is an issue along with innocent children right along side the people your looking for or clearing out.

Im not sure if youve been inside true section 8 housing but let me tell ya, its cramped, its more then cramped, if your uneasy in tight spaces youll have a bad time there. Its so narrow in most places, and me being a big guy doesnt help, that you cant use any effective length of baton, and deploying a snap baton may be impossible in some rooms unless your partner has a steel nose and doesnt mind your elbow. As far as mace, Ive seen 3 druggies so far eat 12% OC spray and ask if I had something hotter. Not a fun thing when you know they have no qualms harming you at the drop of a hat.

I designed this knife with the thought that I may not be in the best position to use anything effectively. I needed some thing that could act as deterent and weapon in a variety of situations no matter how I was holding it or how my body was positioned. I think John hit the nail on the head with the design I sent him and couldnt be happier.

That is an interesting and well thought out design that I hope you never have to use.

And I'm getting some of that file work on my next knife.

Jeff

Jds1 that is the first and last thing that I pray for everyday, that I never ever have to use any of the tools I take to the "office". But Id rather have it if I need it because I promised my better half that Id do everything in my power to come home every night for her.

I hope you never have to use it in your work but I have no doubt that it will work when called upon.
John, those grinds are fantastic. I absolutely love the grinds!

Wow, when you say wicked you mean it

It looks like a mean blade. Hope it never needs to be used.

Thanks for the reasoning. I teach defensive tactics to some of the LEOs who train at our school. I'd MUCH rather depend on an edged weapon over a gun or mace. No jamming or tolerances to worry about. Good call and cool design.

Hi John -

Very nice! It has a little Khukri flavor, but it is nicer looking in my opinion.

I like how the grind and the swedge come together on the standard-ground side.

I think this knife would really grow on you, I think it would be great for a person who needed to slice boxes all day in addition to it's intended purpose.

It just looks like a great cutter.

Congrats markisharp, and nice work Mr. K -

best regards -
