Howdy Guys,

Time for something different! That is what I was thinking when I dreamed these up. This is a Hira Zukuri Tanto set made from CPM S110V steel. The guards and butt caps are made from titanium. They are a bit of a frame handle construction, with the frame made from dyed stabilized redwood. Handles are black canvas micarta with black G10 liners. The stand is made from Catalox, which is described as Mexican Royal Ebony...beautiful and difficult to work. Both knives are convex ground to a thin edge, hand finished(!), and honed to razor sharp.

Some specs (large, small)
OAL: 11.5", 8.5"
Blade: 6", 4"
Thickness: .220", .150"
Steel: 110V@63 from Peter's
Asking $999 shipped (they are on my website @$1250)

Thank you for looking!

If you look at the top of the spine on the handle that strip is the redwood. A frame handle design would usually mean that the tang is outlined basically with a strip of wood then the two scales are made up to that, basically using wood to simulate a full tang on a hidden tang blade (is the best I can do to describe it).

Great job on these guys by the way. Excellent use of several things to make them look topnotch.

Thanks for the assist Quint, nice explanation.

Appreciate the kind words guys!

No, you cant solder/braze titanium to steel by conventional methods. The guard is driven on and fit to the shoulders with a layer of epoxy to seal against moisture. The butt cap is held on by a captive bolt and is also sealed with epoxy. Neither are going anywhere! :)
