I'm one that does practice batoning with knives.

Im not heating a home that way, mind you. But I don't baton with my stick tang knives (unless they are Busse, or other indestructible knives).

My buck fixed blade is pretty thin at the edge. But I've seen them broken at the tang from batoning.
