Sometimes I wish my 0550 had a hole.

I love blade opening holes as well, but it's unlikely that it will happen anytime soon.

Come on, Jimmer, how much longer could it take to make them look like this? ;)

This is just what I was looking for, had it done by a local machine shop. One of the (only) good things about working at a payroll company, you know somebody who can do just about anything. :D

Interesting mod. I find that with my 0550, I can open it in many of the fun methods that I used to open my spydies (when I had them). I can middle finger flick with the lock side thumb stud and I think the blade is wide enough that I can have a decent enough grip to do a "spydie drop". The detent is perfect on mine. It will not open with shaking the knife but it will open easily in all the other methods above. I also think that the blade is definitely wide enough to have room for a hole like you made. Cool thread!

I keep getting my 0551 out and looking at it when reading this thread. There's enough room for a hole there if you remove the thumb-studs and possibly relieved the scales back a bit to get a better angle for your thumb to fit into a hole.

I'm actually considering buying a Blem 0550 and trying this out. I wanted a new-style 0550 anyway, and I think I'd really dig this mod. I may have to give this a try.

arent the studs also the stops?

Exactly, the studs need to stay because they are the blade stops.

Hmmm - I had not noticed that. There is a stop pin for when it's closed, but the studs do appear to be the stop pins for when it's opened. I guess that rules that idea out.
