Sometimes you just lose a customer...

Once upon a time, Bill Cosby was being interviewed and the reporter wanted to know what his recipe for success was. He replied "I don't have any one recipe for success, but I do have one for failure...and that's when you try to please everyone." :)

One of my best purchases came courtesy of Two Wolves Outdoor. I'm not talking about knife purchases but all kinds of purchases. I wish I could hurry up and order a RC5 to give me my fix but finances are tight due to medical issues with my fiance. When things are right again they will get more of my business.
In my line of work its a given that you can't please people all the time, no matter how much you bend to please them. I simply move on to the next person knowing that I did all I could do to make things right. In this case, communication lines were kept open. If the guy was left in the dark the nits one thing, but that's not what happened here.

Have a good weekend guys.

I understand your perspective, and to be honest, if I was betting money, I'd bet he's fishing. BUT, from the business perspective, I HAVE seen this before, when the business was at fault. I've been on the receiving end when the business was at fault (one reason I stick to those I know are good to deal with unless they just can't get what I want).

Also remember, most of us have done business with TwoWolves, and know they are on the up and up, this guy might not. And just because we would have contacted them more often or canceled sooner, doesn't mean everyone deals with things the same way.

As for his response to RAT, I saw it more as a "Thanks for nothing" quip than asking for a freebie.

Another anecdote: I was dealing with an infamous person (JA Ceiner) about an infamous product (.22 kit for an AR), in person. He was a flaming asshole and I made much the same quip, something like: "I guess you don't want to sell your stuff too bad, thanks for saving me some of my money." And to be honest, I wouldn't have taken a freebie at that point even if it was offered.

Again, I'm not siding with the guy against RAT or TwoWolves, just offering another way to look at it, so we don't jump to conclusions as to a person's intent.

If all of this is true... I certainly wouldn't wait two months either. I would buy elsewhere.... Nothing personal.

As long as the dealer was on top of it ( sounds like he was) there just isn't much you can do about it. I wait months for new knives all the time and it is kind of fun to be honest. I am remodeling my house and EVERYTHING is custom. I have waited for tile- plumbing- windows- cabinets and just about everything you can think of. Plus- we have to juggle between living space and one bathroom !! If this guy thought waiting on a knife was tough- I hope he never does a remodel !! Just send me his knife whenever ya get it and I'll be happy no matter what-Thanks

Actually, when I offered to cancel the gentleman's order, I used the phrasing "so you can get it somewhere else." I knew other respectable dealers had them in stock and I am not above sending someone somewhere else to get something I don't have when I don't know when I will get it. It was the only thing the guy ordered and I am not that greedy.
Also, at about the 2 week mark when the guy still did not want to cancel and I still did not have an availability date for him, I offered him some free paracord with his order for his trouble... which he accepted. So he had a freebie coming.

Something just did not set right with this poor fellow and it may have had nothing to do with us. I don't take it personally. It happens.

LupaWolf, That was very generous & a nice gesture to give that scavenger something free. I'm not surprised he took it for that matter. I have a half eaten Big Mac and some french fries if he wants that too, I'll send it to him also, COD, and nothing more.
:barf:

Let's all have a moment of silence for one who shall not experience rat cutlery.......
