Very nice down your way Hollow, any wild piggies? I hear they can be encountered in that area.

Krull,

That's actually closer to you than me.

I live near Huntington in Cabell Co. That is closer to Elkins in Randolph County. Just to get there is a 4.5 hour drive from my place. You could probably make it in 2.

The wild boars were originally stocked in Boone County I believe, which is south, and east of me. I live in Southwest not to far (abt45min) from the OH border. So far as I know they played out. In between rednecks shooting them out of season and wild dogs they didn't stand much of a chance.

Great photos of a great location. Thanks for showing them to us. Like I said before, I can't wait to move :).

HollowDweller , Kickass pictures indeed . I especially liked one of the first of a wide spillover/falls . Is that a pic of running shoes a little too close to the fire ?
Did you bring anything else besides the double bit axe to perform loppendectomies ?

Haha. nice pics. Every time I head into the Sods it seams that it rains. only once in the fall the weather copoerated on a day hike along red creek. The last trip, It was raining and red creek trail was slippery. At the register, my comment was, slippery when wet :D

Hollow...you have just *got* to get off the broken trail...

Beautiful...next year...I'd like ot reserve a spot with you on a trip.

Can I come too? :) Your pictures reminded me of the hiking I did back in Korea, except the trails were a lot more crowded there. There's nothing quite like climbing a few mountains is there?

Roadrunner,

Sure you can come! Missed hanging with you at the Khon this yr so we're due.
So we have you and Nasty so far.

Ghost,

If the date on that pic is correct, I was there that weekend too. Weekend of Columbus Day Right?? We did a 4 day trip We went Bear Rocks trail>Raven Ridge>Cabin Mt(now called Rocky Ridge)> Harman Knob> Big Stonecoal (to the Lions Head> Red Creek>Fisher Springs> Rorhbaugh Plains>(our truck to re supply> South Prong> Canyon Rim>Teepee Trail> Roaring Plains> FS70 back to our car. We had planned to come out via Boars Nest but it was getting dark.

Was that pic near the beginning of Red Creek or around the Forks?

PS. I have only got rain twice there, well 3 times. The one this year and in 2003 was real brief, the worst was a total downpour for hours at night. That was on our honeymoon 10/85

looks like a wonderful trip hollowdweller - and pics that evoke envy. We are about to try to accomodate our 13 moth old Simon to sleep in a tent - after several problems it works now - but now my wife cannot sleep in a tent any longer because she always is so aware that the little one sleeps well... :( well - some years from now we will be able to make family trips again I hope...
