Deryk Munroe is well know for his creative, tactical folder designs. Here is a very rare forged, fixed blade of his. A tanto in 1084/15N20 with an OAL of 10" and a 5" blade. It's quite unique and quite nice.

What was done to get the non-beveled parts of the steel that texture? It looks like some pitted moonscape. Incredible.

That is the rough forged steel left unfinished. Mostly hammer marks but I imagine other factors play into creating the texture related to heating, cooling,... For similar work take a look at Matt Lamey, Adam Desrosiers, Jason Knight... Each of them does some rough forged work. I like the look quite a bit in this piece.
