Hi Guys,
There is no doubt in my mind that I am a hard worker.
After 29 years at one job as a Tool Maker I was laid off Dec 5,2008.
In the 6.5 weeks of not having a job I got up at my regular time and put in a days work 3.5 days a week in my shop. The other day and a half was house cleaning and food shopping, Job hunting etc. I made 6 knives and 8 sheaths while I was laid off. I figure If I sold each knife for $300. I couldn't survive.
Tomorrow I start a new job with a local tool company.
I Love Knife making as a hobby but as a full time maker it will have to wait for retirement.
Food for thought.:)

Couldn't may be to strong a word. Smart enough not to try may be more like it. I on the other hand am not that smart;) Good luck on the new job!

My hat's off to you, Dave. I was suspended for 2 weeks last summer for an infraction at my job. While I was off I came to the same conclusion that in my current circumstance there is no way without selling the "farm" as it were and starting over in a small, rural area that I could even think of it. And even then it would be a stretch. Congrats on the job and best wishes!

Congratulations on the new job Dave. To find one in this economy, you must be really good at what you do.

Hooray for the new job! Five JS knives and a spare in six weeks, not bad. Good luck with the job.

Kevin

I made knives a long, long time ( almost 25 years ) before I went full time, it takes a lot to do it.
And on top of that I was pretty much an unknown maker....
But thanks to the INTERNET and Bladeforums it's getting better.
And now after making over 400 folders, I think I finally got them figured out.
Kinda getting fun again to make them....:D:thumbup:

Congrats on the new job, hope all goes well.
