Son of Badger owner feedback.

Guys, I apologize if this has been covered but I have searched the forum and not found what I was looking for.

I am seriously considering selling off some of my collection (non-Busse) and placing an order for an SOB.
I only own 1 Busse at this point, a Battle Mistress. It has sold me on the benefits of INFI and it's superior handle ergonomics.

I would like something smaller and lighter to serve as a general purpose hunting, bushcraft, woods tool that will be comfortable for all day carry. The Son of Badger appears like it will fill the bill nicely.

I was hoping to get some feedback from some SOB owners that are currently employing their blades in these rolls.

I'm assuming that since my BM has no issues doing everything from carving fine feather sticks to heavy wood processing that I already have my answer (lol) but any real world field feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Jaeger I edc mine now. I was carrying a boss street. Both great knives but I really like the feel of the sob handle. And I prefer it's grind. It no doubt gets scary sharp. It has exceeded my expectations from cutting zip tie tails with ease to slicing threw 14 gauge wire with little effort. Also have made nice thin feather stick curls and sliced off a wart like a razor. I'd say go for it without hesitation because u will have no regrets. It's light enuff I don't have any trouble carrying it all day everyday and when it's fat little pot belly fills your hand u know u have a beast of a belt knife to do whatever you need it to do. Hope this helps!! Good luck

I just got one from blade and it feels amazing. It's quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I will say prior to holding one I was very skeptical of the belly swell, but after holding it you realize just how nice that swell is.

Wow. I don't own one but I think I just found my dream knife (beginner BushCrafter here).

It'll take me a couple months to save up the $400 - do you think that they will still be available?

I have been searching and searching for my ideal knife - holding off on impulse buying. And there she is.

Love mine. Well worth the price..i even feel that after having to pay another $130 in cross border duty fees. Now if only my azwelke sheath would arive id be set. At least it fits an old tandy small sheath kit i had made last year

Thank you for the feedback gentlemen. You are telling me pretty much what I expected to hear. Lol!

It wasn't released long ago so I'm sure it will still be available, by then they may even have a combat grade version.

I haven't beat on mine since I just got it this weekend but I don't have a more comfortable feeling knife in my collection. If you have an ASHBM and like the straight handle your going to love the feel of the SOB it feels rock solid in my hands.

I have one on order. With 3 RMDs, 1 HRLM, a Rodent Solution, a SYCO 511, scrapivore & Swamp Wardens on hand, I really needed one. My first Infi blade though. I had a passing thought: Oh no, a numbered LE! Safe queen?
I guess I should cut stuff like crazy instead. Thoughts???

Oh yea, and I have a Yardhook - I think. It has no markings, but it looks like one on a thread here, complete with a Resiprene "C" handle. Brown/mud colored. I really need to get a sheath for that blade. It's the only one that I have not used!!

All Busse knives were designed to be users, IMHO. Up to you. I don't expect to sell any of mine, so I wouldn't let a number on the blade prevent me from using it. Just know that your finish would stay as the same, if you do use the knife.

I've worked hard to keep my satin finish on my Rodent 3. Put a vinegar petina on it and never looked back, don't like the knife any less for it. Great user!

I don't do safe queens. If I get one of these it will get used!

I really appreciate all the responses.

I have been handling my tiger hide version since I got back from blade. I ran it on the strop and then made a few feather sticks with it. I absolutely love it. I only used it for about a hour but there was no hot spots at all. Handle shape is great and filling. this will probably be my new woods companion for quite some time! This is the knife I wanted from blade show. That being said I grabbed a infimandu and it's pretty damn nice too. A slightly larger blade but the handles are quite as filling! still will be a great woods tool also.

Thanks folks. I'd like to see pics of those knives, the tiger hide and patina'd R3. I haven't seen either. May need (he, he) to get an R3 on order!

That's great info. A comfortable handle is of utmost importance.

Here is the R3 with David Brown, tek-lok equipped, sheath. Compact, non obtrusive, very capable blade....

...and, that little dark line in front of the small choil is not a crack. It's just a stain. Blade is clean and oiled ( mineral).
The vinegar patina will give it a dull gray color.... The rest is from use. Mostly food prep.

Is there a downside to the comp. finish? I see a number of these blades new on eBay for what appear to be comparable prices to buying direct from Busse but they all have this competition finish. Typically a rougher finish is a bit more prone to rust but I have not found my Battle Mistress prone to rust at all.
Are we pretty much just looking at a cosmetic issue?

A lot of us really dig the competition finish in just how it looks. the reason there are so many on ebay is bladeshow had a ton of them in the comp finish. Me personally I love the looks of the comp finish but I don't believe it has any benefit over the satin on the LE version other than it might not show scratches and such as easily. I much prefer satin and comp finish to a coated blade though. I feel like they cut better but that may be all in my mind. I'll try to post a picture of mine when I get home tonight.

and one other thing really desirable about the competition finish is that busse has discontinued it and is no longer available from Busse unless it's a offering of their choosing like at bladeshow.
