Graham just finished this for his mom for Christmas. He bought the blank at the hammer-in at USA Knife Maker last August and did the bevel that day. He originally did white scales, but decided he liked the orange better. He's done 99% of the work himself, but Dave Larsen sharpened it. He originally had a 400 grit finish, but there were some 120 grit scratches that weren't coming out so he decided to bead blast it.

14" Santoku
Single sided bevel
154CM blade
Orange Kirinite scales

Handle material looks to be kirinite, its available at USAknifemaker, thats the only place i have seen it so far.

VERY NICE!!! Mom should be really happy.

I'm just not familiar with kirinite, is it like a Corian type material? Looks like old celluloid handles, and I just love those.

This is what I learned at the hammer-in about the material. It was presented by a guy who normally sold them for custom gun handles. It's much less brittle than other acrylics that I've tried. The colors are great and unique, but the scales don't match book end style. That's about my only complaint with them. We were throwing them on the ground and they weren't cracking. They had free samples if we were willing to make a knife with them and Graham took them up on the offer. I think the knife turned out great, especially the handle. He took to heart what he's learned about "beginners tend to make a rectangle with rounded corners" and his handle on this one is as comfortable as it is brightly colored.

Graham wanted me to thank you all for the kind words.
