Hello! This is my very first posting I have ever done so please be nice and dont laugh at me.
My fiance collects knifes and he has got me interested in them now also. I would love to surprise him with a knife for our wedding gift to each other. Does anyone have any idea as to there favorite knife. Between $100.00 to $300.00 That I could surprise him with for our special day. Also for myself as a woman what should be my first knife of my honeymoon collection.
Thank you and hope that Someone could help me out.
New Bride to be in July......

What is the cost of such a knife I can spend no more than 300.00 Dollars. Is microtech brand of knives very good?

Jade...nice to have you here on the forums...it would be nice if you could narrow the field down alittle for us. Like what kind of price range are we looking at, you want a fixed blade or a folder, that kinda of stuff helps alot believe me.

Welcome to the Forums! Tell us a little bit about him, and what he likes. That might help narrow the knife search down a little bit. I also want to add that you rule! I mean taking an interest in getting him a knife, and asking us on forums. We are glad to have ya.

Jade,
Take him to your local knife store, or favorite online site and let him look around. His reaction to different knives should give you ideas. Also a custom knife is always nice. Most people would love to own one.

Want to meet interesting women...hang out at your local knife store.

Welcome to the forums! Hope you'll have some fun here.

I second the idea to bring him to a knife store. That way he can really get a feel for what he likes and dislikes. Spyderco ( www.spyderco.com ) always have nice knives at great prices. They are great value, and are great beginner knives (the clip-its) to more advanced knives (starmate, military, etc.). Benchmade ( www.benchmade.com ) also has nice knives, and several great gentlemen's folders.

It all depends on what he likes. He may need a hard-use knife (if, for example, he cuts a lot of things in his job), or maybe a gentlemen's folder, or maybe a self-defense knife. Also, you'll have to decide between folder vs. fixed blade. For his first knife gift, I suggest a folder. This is because he will probably get more use out of it (being a "beginner" knife user, probably) , and appreciate it more therefore. But, if he loves hiking/hunting/camping a lot, a fixed blade is also a great idea.

Stick around a while, and you'll have plenty of your own ideas! I've sure learned a lot in the year and a half or so I've spent here. It's really great you're getting a knife for your husband. I'm sure many of us are very jealous!!!

Welcome to the forums.

Just give us an idea of how much you want to spend and a little guidance on what he likes and we will be happy to stear you in the right direction.

I have a nice classic lockback with Damascus blade and white bone scales I would part with. E mail if iterested.

I bought a new mini-socom at a gun show for $60, but I've seen them for over $100 several places. I believe they've been discontinued...? They are quite nice, if a little small. CRKT Wasp is nice, BM750 Pinnacle is nice, but a little too large for me. I recently purchased a small Sebenza, which is VERY nice, but it's pushing the $300 mark.

My wife bought me a BM2550 Mini-Reflex when we were first married and it's still one of my favorites.

Welcome, Jade. Please excuse the forumites who get so excited talking to women -- even via the internet -- that they miss things like "between $100 and $300" and demand to know your budget. They'll get over it.

The big question is: Are you trying to establish some psychological positioning in your gift to your husband-to-be, or just wanting to get him a nice knife? Same question applies to what knife you should get. For instance, you could buy him a nice small "gent's" folder by Benchmade or something similar like the Spyderco Mouse, and buy yourself something like the Next Generation KaBar. This is a military knife with a 7" blade. You could go so far as to get yourself a Becker Brute or a Livesay RTAK. Could really establish some power for yourself that way. Or, vice-versa, you could still proclaim your interest, in a submissive sort of way, buy getting yourself a nice small Spyderco, and getting him the Microtech Socom Elite. Make him feel powerful and protective.

On the other hand, if you're just looking for a nice knife for him, and have an idea he doesn't have one already, you could go to Bayou LaFourche, and get him the "old" style AFCK which virtually everyone agrees is a good knife, and buy yourself the mini-AFCK. $84 and $68 under Closeouts/Benchmade at http://www.knifeworks.com/. Or by the same token, but quite a bit more money, you could get yourself the mini-Socom and buy him a Socom (if they're not discontinued and gone) or Socom Elite. You could just stay underbudget that way -- both for $300.

Happy choosing! Best wishes for your nuptials. If you decide to go for the power approach, I'd sure like to learn of it.

Welcome Jade. This is a special occasion, congratulations. Microtech is probably the best made production knife. Here is something a little better. If he likes the size of the mini socom, he would love this knife. It is very fast and super smooth. Not bad looking either. A special knife for a special occasion. Matching, his/hers would be great.

Something old,
Something new.
Something borrowed,
Something Blue.

Mini SOCCOM's,
For both of you.

Personally I would have been thrilled beyond words, (actually *blush*, more thrilled than I was at the time anyhow) to have found a Mini Socom clipped to the blushing brides garter. (Ok, so they weren't made back in the stone age when I got hitched,,come to think of it clips weren't even on knives then,,)anywho, it's the thought that counts.

My wife is also interested in knives. It's always good to hear about more women getting involved!

There are always disputes over which brands are *really* good, but most everyone agrees that Microtech is one of the good ones. Other safe bets include Benchmade, Spyderco, and Chris Reeve Knives.

If you want to buy a knife that looks really amazing, as well as being a good knife, go to http://www.bladeart.com/ and look under Customs for the work of Frank Recupero.

BladeArt is a good place to deal with in general, especially for custom pieces. If you are interested in fixed blades look at the work of Bob Dozier, also under Customs. I have never heard a single bad word about Bob's work for anyone.

Check out BladeArt's Specials for the best price I've seen on a Spyderco Mouse. Several previous posts have mentioned it and I have to agree that it's amazing. The Mouse is a cute little knife that cuts like something three times its size.

Finally, if you're looking for places to by I would also recommend the One Stop Knife Shop at http://www.1sks.com/ and Bayou Lafourche Knife Works at http://www.knifeworks.com/.

All the best!

For something like this, you should get something special. Clicking a few buttons, racking a hundred bucks onto the old credit card, and having Spark throw a Mini Socom into the mail for you is to easy and to ordinary for this once-in-a-lifetime occation.

Unfortunately, a $300 budget is a bit weak to get into a good custom folder.

The alternative is to buy a nice folder in the $100-$150 range, the aforementioned Mini Socom would be a nice choice and 1sks.com has the Mini Socom on sale for $99. Consider, also, the Benchmade 722. There are a lot of choices. Then, oh and this is what makes it special, send the knife off to Frank Recupero to have the ho-hum skins replaced with an exotic wood or maybe mother of pearl and add some nice file work too.

You get the look and feel of a custom knife based on the proven, precision-manufactured mechanism of a production knife. For $200, Frank can do a lot of nice work.

Now that'll be special and it'll fit your budget perfectly.

I don't really know what it costs to get married, although I know it's a lot. If you're into, or going to get into, collecting knives, I think you're better off saving up for a nice custom...I think that would make a very special wedding gift.

In either case, I think a matched set in a nice wood box would be great. I got to handle a few of Frank Recupero's customized knives, and I thought that they were great. If you're going with a factory folder I would not hesitate to recommend customization by him.

Congratulations,
Mitch

Hi again. Just a point on the knife recommended by Hawaiian. It is an automatic, or switchblade if you prefer. It is my understanding that except for Oregon and California (under 2" blade) that automatic knives are illegal by in most states and by federal law, unless one is on active duty in the military or a law enforcement officer. If you already knew that, sorry for the inconvenience.
