Soon to be bride needs to buy a knife...

Bugs, most Microtech knives are offered in manual versions, as well.

Also there are quite a few more states than that. Florida, for example, where Microtech is located. And local to me, Rhode Island allows autos, and Vermont allows autos under 3" blade length. There are several others.

It's a bit of topic drift here, but lest there be any misunderstanding let me point out that the military and law enforcement exceptions to the federal switchblade act are often misunderstood. Just because you are a police officer or soldier does not mean that you personally can legally own automatic knives. Your department or service can own them and you can transport them across state lines for official purposes.

Hello Jade,
Welcome, it is always nice to see another Minnesotan on board. I vacationed in the Grand Marais area a couple of summers ago and it is beautiful. I have to agree with the Mini-Socoms and as mentioned before be careful Automatic knives(switchblades) are not legal in Minnesota. If you have questions you would like to discuss offline email me at eaisaacs@smig.net
Good luck
Eric

William Henry Knives Carbon Fiber Spearpoint (model T12) for him.

William Henry Knives Mother of Pearl Kestrel for you.

You will never regret either purchase.

Check with your supplier about engraving on the pearl bolsters. The wedding date would be nice, or your own choice. No engraving on the knife for him unless you select Amber Bone or Fishtail (Oak).

Hey there,

A few knives that readily come to mind are any of the steel handled Spydercos. If I remember right all of them are under $100. You could even get a matching pair for the both of you. And to make the gift even more special, you could get the handle engraved with whatever phrase you'd like at most jewelry stores. Nothing says I love you like a Spyderco

Jade,

In my opinion, Microtechs are the best production knives out there, Bar None! I own 7 of them currently.

The Mini-Socom is a great little knife. See if you can find out if he likes Tanto or Clip points and Partially Serrated or Straight edge.

A real beauty is the Walter Brend Satin finish Mini-Socom.

satinminiscm.jpg

It was only made in an auto version, but even though they are "illegal" to carry, it is pretty easy to get one and he can carry it around the house and such. I got mine for $160

As for MANUAL Mini-Socoms, the Signature series Tantos are pretty nice and can be found for around $100.

Let me also mention that the William Henry's that were mentioned are also amazing knives with great fit and finish. My Damascus Lancet is what I carry when I am dressed up. COMPLETELY different knid of knife though. The MT's are tactical folders, where the William Henry is really a Gent's (or Ladies) knife.

Feel free to e-mail me if you want any help tracking down mini-socoms at lomic@lomic.net

Some of them are hard to find, but they ARE out there.

e_utopia -- thanks for the info on the other states. As I wrote that, was pretty sure I'd heard something about Florida, but wasn't aware of any others. Then today, reading back in a TK issue, found the article I was thinking of and this time noticed that it said that Oregon people can own BM autos. Sorry for the misstatement -- for both you and Jade.

The link Hawaiian offered is to a Ti-Knives auto -- at least I think. At least the description under the knife, whoever made it says auto. Hence my concern.

Hell, it is obvious that probably 10% of the autos sold do not go to either LEOs, military, or the states you mentioned. Nevertheless, thought Jade should have a heads up about the situation. I once lived in a land pretty well controlled by folks of Swedish extraction. In my experience, they are an extremely conservative group, likely to have nasty penalties for such things. (I've never understood that because Sweden and its people are so progressive and open minded???)

I came across an ad in the individual sales -- pretty sure -- for a pair of the new Spyderco Vesuvius. Both serial numbered the same, and have pretty blue inserts. One plain, one combo. Well under Jade's budget. Ronybear is seller.
