I have a sorocabana made by a A. Lopes, Tatui, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Other than that basic info I can't dig up anything else. Does anyone have any information on this guy or is he primarily a local maker?

Long time no post on BF!
Ariovaldo is a good friend of mine and his shop is just a few blocks from mine. He is still making knives and Sorocabanas are his specialty. He has learned the trade from an old friend who was an old-time blacksmith and whose work you can see here: http://ivancamposknives.wordpress.com/bide-and-his-knives/ . Most of his stuff is sold locally and he does not speak English so if you need to contact him, I can help.
Here is a picture of one of his more recent creations in his own damascus.

Sure has been a while Ivan, the pic that you posted is a good looking one for sure. The sheath on mine is now drying out, and the sheath to the one you posted is good looking. Does he do sheaths only as well?

He makes his own sheathes and I am sure he could make you a new one but he would need the knife as the sheaths are made specifically for each of his knives, one at a time.
