sorry anoth noob question

im just wongering what should i use to put like a coating on a blade that i made?
or if i even should?
if not what ca i do to help prevent rust?
idk if this helps its 1095 and i made it for a freind who is ot hunting and camping alot so he does not oil much

If he's into hunting and camping then he should understand maintaining his tools. You don't have to oil 1095 every 5 minutes, just wipe it down after using. Even if it does rust so what? clean it up and oil the blade then. Put a 400x finish on it so he can repair the finish due to HIS neglect. A quality knife is a tool no different from his rifle, pistol or anything else he's using.
