I live on Guam - an unincorporated territory of the U.S. Almost all residents are U.S. citizens. They were drafted during the Vietnam War which is when I first visited the place 45 years ago. There's a National Guard here. Just read 11 local KIA in Afghanistan alone. USPS is all over the place. Shipping to and from the U.S. costs the same as between any state. For some odd reason, some Bladeforum members won't sell knives to me, regardless of the fact that I've been a member for 12 years and have done hundreds of satisfactory transactions over the years. "Lower 48". "Conus Only". As though sending stuff to Hawaii, Alaska is fraught with hidden danger. Even when you tell them you'll absolve them of responsibility once they mail it, they'll still decline. It's still pretty much a free country so no one should be forced out of their comfort zone. Just thought I'd mention it again. But jeez they don't mind buying my knives.

I wasn't aware of the ease of shipping to territories either until a member from Hawaii informed me. Your doing a good thing by posting this thread, if people know that it is just the same as shipping to the lower 48, maybe people will start doing so. It's the same cost as shipping anywhere else in the USA.

Thank you for sharing this Miguet. I've said it before, some people don't know that the US does in fact have 50 states. Alaska and Hawaii are part of the US, I know it might be shocking to some, but it is true I assure you. As far as the desire to not ship outside the "CONUS", I think it's simply ignorance more often than not. The rest of the time, people do not want to get burned by buyers that are ignorant of their own knife laws, cutoms intervenes and the item is lost, a claim is filed and the seller is screwed.

I have shipped to almost all the states and around the world and had very few problems and thats mostly tomahawks which are a lot more $ to ship than knives. The world is a very big market and I like it!!

Ignorance is a shame. On top of it all, miguet is a good guy to do business with. So are a couple of members in Hawaii I've dealt with.

Lets us not forget Puerto Rico, which is also an unincorporated territory of the United States.

I bought and sold hundreds of knives all over the world (every continent at least once so far) but I still had to pass on several knives due to that ignorant CONUS rule sellers use. Their loss not mine.

I was surprised how fast that Caly 3 I bought from you got here. Only about a week, but I was expecting a month. :D I'd have no problem shipping a knife to you, miguet.

i have shipped knives all over the states and several overseas countries. i always make sure the package has insurance and tracking. if the person i'm sending a knife back to wants it shipped in a way other than that, i make sure they send me an email stating how they want it shipped and that is how i send it. i have had good luck so far sending knives out of the states. i agree with marcel54 about it being the sellers loss for not wanting to sell to someone overseas.

miguet, i would have no problems sending a knife to you. the same for you too marcel54. :D

Alaska and Hawaii are states.... USPS is the same as to anywhere else. However if you live outside CONUS do not buy from anyone who ships by UPS only, because UPS charges start at like $25 or something like that to ship outside of CONUS. If a seller will only use UPS that could be a valid reason not to ship outside CONUS because of the rates UPS charges.

As weird as it sounds, there is a "UPS ground" option which some businesses use to ship overseas, but I don't know how that works.

I did a trade with miguet with no problems at all. Hey bro if that officer isn't my thing you've got first dibs and yes I'll ship it to you.

I'm expecting a knife from Michael in the morning, took about 8 days no problems. Mine arrived to him on Thursday. No sweat.

I got no worries shipping anywhere... As long as it has a legitimate address, that a postal carrier, or some kind of trained baboon can safely deliver a package to, no worries...

As long as the guy i’m sending it too accepts the risk of a trained baboon with a knife ;)

That really stinks, Mike. I would sell you some stuff!

I think my Civilian will be here tomorrow from you. Definitely excited.

I would have no problem shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the US Virgin Islands or any other places that the USPS delivers to. And as an aside, Miguet- I visited Guam in 1997 and have to say it is a beautiful place. I stayed on the campus of the University of Guam in a little duplex on a road that dead ended at the ocean. The locals there, as on the other islands I visited (Yap, Palau, and Pohnpei) were amazing, extremely friendly, and wonderfully polite.

ETA- the Northern Mariana Islands are a trust territory as well. I probably wouldn't have a problem shipping there either.

Miguet, it is a good reminder to post these threads.
I will often sell with restrictions to CONUS only not because of any other reason but fear of loss of the knife in the mail system.

Your good reputation and lenght of time as a BF member would be my assurance to sell to you over any promises that I'm not held responsible for lost in mail items

I think a reminder that mailing to US territories with USPS educates folks that don't understand that they are shipping in the US still.

As far as worldwide shipping... I make exceptions in my sales threads to longtime established BF members, but will not take chances if a person is unestablished on BF and especially if they are unestablished and out USPS shipping.

Most guys are just afraid of bad feedback because of a lost item I think?

Regards Jeff

I appreciate all the supportive statements. My Bladeforums experiences are typically pleasant and professional. I would like to provide a quick and painless lowdown on Guam. Customs to Guam is an agricultural drill. The island has an encapsulated eco-system so there's paranoia regarding new bugs. Although knife laws are relatively liberal, there are few hobbyists on the island. Regarding USPS, most residents pick their mail up at one of the USPS locations. Home delivery is limited. Planned Unit Developments (tracts) have been around for 35 years and are growing but many of the local Chamorros live in multi-generation, family compounds and strongly identify with the village in which they live. Limited residential street signage precludes home delivery to much of the island. Going to USPS to retrieve actually simplifies the delivery and receipt process. USPS tracking updates aren't always timely, but eventually packages track right up to USPS Guam Mail Facility in Barrigada - where I pick up my stuff. So, absolving worried senders is low risk on my part. USPS Priority East Coast to Guam is 10 or so days. A few days less from the west coast. USPS mail destined for the Western Pacific is sorted in Hawaii. Adds a few days. USPS shipping costs are exactly the same as mailing from and to any location in the U.S. The water is 86 degrees and you can see a hundred or more feet down. Just sayin.
