Folks:

My apologies for the etiquette breach. I'm sure the "no sale postings at the basic level" was included in the user agreement and I simply didn't read it closely enough. I figured the only thing I had to do was clear it with Bill, first.

Given the "public-funded" nature of the B-forums, I can understand the policy.

I didn't know the rule regarding individual sales, either, so don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I guess I'll make a post about this. Blues helped me out with it.

Honestly, I thought that Uncle Bill had acheived some kind of exalted position with the Mods that allowed sales/exchanges on this forum, else I would have asked before.

I've never had a need to sell any of my khukuris yet...:D

I've always thought that one of the reasons this forum is popular is because it's the only place in the world where you can find the PGAs and UBDOTDs. I'd hate to have to put the deals somewhere else but will if we must. I'll run some and see if it's against the law or not.

I can see it now...

Uncle Bill pulls up for a duel with one of the other Mods...

They pull out their Spydie, or Strider, or SOG, or even their Busse and Bill whips out a 30" Kobra... :D

Will the person whose life was so unhappy he had to make ours a little dimmer please come forward and explain why what happened in HI impacted his life so drastically?

munk

yeah, I know...we all gotta follow the rules...

"and Bill whips out a 30" Kobra..."

Can one of you computer whizzes, like MauiRob, please paste the Cobra over the light sword? Might make it look good to leave a little light like a halo around it.

Looks like the fuss is over we basic members that post sale items. Looks like you Gold, Premium, Preferred members and Moderators are okay for sale.

Like I know what's going on.

Me too. We should be fine with the PGAs, but the personal stuff will probably be pushed into Exchange.

To quote BLUES:

"SORRY GUYS, BUT ONLINE SELLING BY MEMBERS IS NOT PERMITTED AT THE "BASIC" MEMBERSHIP LEVEL. THAT APPLIES ANYWHERE ON THE BF SITE."

So FREE Basic members don't have the
privilege of posting items for sale here.

Everyone who pays for membership
pays for that privilege and may do so.

Seems reasonable to me.

I'm not sure of all the rules, but the topic of sales even by gold and premium members has been the topic of several posts in the
G.B.& U.Forum for some time and especially if someone thinks a gold or premium member is a dealer, Jaxurman is a good example but Spark is and has been satisfied that Jaxurman isn't a defined dealer.
I'm not real sure but I think full fledged dealers are supposed to have a dealer's membership.
I don't know if that pertains to Bill & H.I. or not since Bill is actually the rep for H.I. although I guess in reality that makes Bill a dealer. I've just never given the whole deal any thought since there has been deals here almost everyday from the beginning.
Spark hasn't said anything to date and I'll bet Spark is aware of the PGA's and the UBDOTD's in here.
I bought the gold membership to show my support of bladeforums.com and the ability to attach pic's to my post's. The perks are alright but I've only used the PM a couple of times and the only time I mentioned selling a knife I think was when I offered Raghorn my horn handled YCS and even then we worked out the details online.

that on those occasions when I find something that a collector
or related-blade afficiando might like...on a web site, or ebay...
That I SHOULD NOT tell other folks about it?

These are not things I sell, but think that forumites would be interested in knowing about.

Clarification...gotta luv it.

We're all in this together.

Who's BilltheCat? How did a basic member post a picture?

Spence,

No apology necessary, but your graciousness is appreciated.

Munk,

Doesn't matter who the naysayer was or if he/she was a member of the forum, just the fact that it was bringing attention where none was wanted.

Yvsa,

I have a feeling you're right re: Bill's and HI's status on the forum, but I think there's been an implicit "don't ask/don't tell" attitude adopted and that's fine with me.

Regarding pix, you can post pix but they won't be hosted by the site if you are not a paying member.

As for the rest, let me just say the following. None of the moderators on this site get paid for their efforts, such as they are.
Like 'em or don't like 'em, they do it on their own time and at their own expense.

This site is owned by Spark and it costs money to keep it up and running. The reason why different categories of membership were created was to make the site self sustaining. To get folks to want to upgrade their membership, Spark offered certain perks. (Hosted Pictures, Private Messaging, Selling etc.)

Some don't mind paying, others complain, kind of like with most things in the world. The bottom line is that there is a cost involved in maintaining the site and those who don't contribute shouldn't (as I see it) make that much noise about what they can and can't do since they are being provided privileges and access gratis at no cost to themselves.

As I implied in the respective threads, I don't get any big joy out of taking "official" steps and try to be as discreet and unassuming as possible, but the site doesn't belong to me and I try to do my role as quietly as possible to keep this place up and rolling.

Thanks for listening.

Kis I don't believe there's any problem with posting links. I've noticed some of the guys selling personal khuks in here posting a link to the selling forum and wondered why they didn't post the thread here to begin with and figured it was to give greater exposure to their post, guess now it all makes sense.:)
