Sorry for Etiquette Breach

Can one of you computer whizzes, like MauiRob, please paste the Cobra over the light sword? Might make it look good to leave a little light like a halo around it.

Thanks for praise but in my case it is not deserved. No false modesty here--in all seriousness I don't know my A** from a hole in the ground when it comes to this stuff! I can diddle around in Photoshop if its really basic stuff, but I have NO idea how BillPaxton and others here do half the stuff they do.

BillP, are you saying you will only be online for 2 more days? If so that's a shame:(

thank you, sir. I appreciate the clarity. Part of the pleasure of coming to the forum is to see, appreciate, and help others with related interests.
Budget constraints prohibit a more active participation, and I would have felt a sense of loss if I couldn't have shared in some small ways to the benefit of the group.

Thank you.

Kis

Kis I don't believe there's any problem with posting links. I've noticed some of the guys selling personal khuks in here posting a link to the selling forum and wondered why they didn't post the thread here to begin with and figured it was to give greater exposure to their post, guess now it all makes sense.:)

As far as I know, most of the specifics of the "rules" have never been formally determined and written down, so they remain rather vague. One clarification on the above is that posting links to your own auctions or other sales sights is at least frowned upon, if not totally forbidden. If you have a legitimate sale posted in the sale forum here and link to it, that shouldn't be a problem. If you see an auction on eBay and want to point it out to others, that's cool too. But putting your own item up on eBay and posting a link and saying "Hey guys, check out my auction!" is a no-no. At least that's my understanding of it right now.

While I'm at it I'd like to give a big thumbs up to Blues for how he's handled this. I spend more time in the other forums than the vast majority here, so I was aware of the rules and rather concerned about the situation. Like everybody else, I don't want to see any problems for Uncle or this forum. I agree with Blues about the "don't ask/don't tell" policy, and I hope the deals from Uncle Bill won't be affected. (When hawking the forum you own, high thread and post counts look good, and I'm sure Spark doesn't want to lose the 8 bajillion posts the HI forum produces.) But just in case, it's definitely best to try not to draw any unwanted attention here.

Since it's the HI forum I don't see how offering specials on HI products can present much of a problem for anybody.

My position is it looked like a bunch of hokeum to me since the guy has never posted on the HI forum, but.

What I felt obligated to do was take some meaningless action I could point to so if the um... guy ... who complained came back he wouldn't go even higher up before Bill got back.

I didn't want to unknowingly jeopardize Bill's position, if he and Spark either had a deal or attract attention to the fact everyone was looking the other way.

I just wanted to keep it low key. I've no idea why the guy picked on spence when there were others in the same boat.
---------------------------------------------
Editing at this time to retract and tender my apologies to the person who complained. He deserves them, and has been stated to be a standup guy. I'm apparently the one who jumped to conclusions without checking my assumptions, something I try hard not to do. Usually.

Rusty,

Not sure I know what you're saying or trying to say, but nobody specifically pointed out Spence. I took that action on my own when I happened across it while visiting the forum before leaving home this morning.

Frankly, I think more is being read into this than need be and it'd be better to move on.

Blues:

Explanatory e-mail message forwarded to you.

My comments were not directed at you but the guy who made a complaint over the weekend while Bill was gone.

If you understand that my above comments should now make sense.

Spence:

I see no need to apologise or even feel bad. Someone who has never posted here ( HI )had to spoil everyone else's fun. You were in the line of fire.

Far as I'm concerned the issue in dead.

Got it, Rusty.

Just so you know, the individual you are referring to is not the only one to have brought this issue up of late and was not the one who was responsible in this instance.

Anyway, it's time to wrap this up.

(Back to regular programming.)

Before this gets wrapped up I would like to say that it was me that reported Spence's thread to a Moderator. It is correct that I have, until this time, not posted on this forum. I came here to do some reading because I am thinking of getting a Khukri and thought that this would be the best place to get an education.

I did not pick on Spence. I reported the thread because it was near the top and one of the first that I read and because selling knives on any forum except the proper exchange forum is verboten. This was not done to ruin a good thing that you guys had. I did not even know that it was something that was accepted on this forum.

Rusty, I can understand your thoughts towards me, and that goes for all the rest of you that think I am an ass (or worse) for doing what I did.

This is my first time back to this forum since the shyte hit the fan and that is the reason I have not come forward before this. Thinking that this for sale add was an isolated incident not an accepted part of this forum, I did not think that I would be causing so much trouble.

Please feel free to flame away. I have a thick skin and can take it. You have a right to state your opinion of what I did and a right to vent.

Well, thanks for coming forward and stating your name and purpose. I wouldn't have complained about the ad but that is me. You have integrity for standing.

No flames here. Just wanted to mention that if you happen to be looking for your first khuk, $95 for a Bura GS is one helluva deal...

And I'll reiterate, hopefully for the last time in this thread, that the action I took was wholly independent of Keith as I happened on the thread on my own. I was, however, aware that this issue has been brought up amongst other bf.com moderators/administrators in the recent past.

Keith is a stand up guy, but please don't blame him for actions I took.

(Hopefully) End of story.

It's a matter of rules and nothing more as I see it. I don't always know what the rules are but when I find out I'll try to abide by them and try to see to it that others do too. However, I can use all the help I can get.
