I've been lurking about for quite a while now and read a ton.

Normally I have no trouble researching suppliers, but I need some help with this one.

I've seen Bruce Evan's video I thought I would try to wack out a hawk sometime.

I can't find square bar (or round) 1.250" to 1.500" in suitable 5160 or 10XX series steel.

I have found Fastenall carries precision ground W1, but it's expensive as hell for some learnin on the heatin and beatin.

Recommend a size?

Recommend a supplier?

Canada, or USA

You might want to re-think those dimensions.
What I have posted here was forged from 1" square 5160.

At first thought, a person might think you need that extra SIZE of bar to make the hawk bit, but what you do is cut a piece about 6 inches long, heat up one end, then stand it on end on your anvil and upset the hot end into itself.
This creates extra mass on the end of the bar to forge out the bit with.
Raymond Richard has an excellent tutorial on how to do this here:

I have 2400' of 1" sqaure 5160 if you need a little to play with.
